Tottenham Hotspur managed to beat Juventus for Randal Kolo Muani’s signature before the transfer window shut
Well, it is fair to say that Tottenham fans were rewarded for their patience during deadline day as the club completed the signing of Randal Kolo Muani. The Lilywhites managed to confirm the France international’s arrival just a few hours before the transfer window shut on Monday (1st September).
Not many fans expected the North London club to sign the 26-year-old at the eleventh-hour, as he was always linked heavily with a move to Juventus. But the deal to sign for the Serie A giants fell through as both PSG and Juventus did not reach an agreement for Kolo Muani’s signature. This gave Spurs a chance to swoop in late and sign the prolific striker on a season-long loan.

Thomas Frank had admitted during the weekend that he was content with the options he had up front in Richarlison and Dominic Solanke. The Danish tactician admitted that both players gave the team a ‘fine balance’ and that a need for a new striker was not urgent as the Lilywhites looked to compete hard on all four fronts. However, Daniel Levy still opted to move in for a new player due to the pair’s constant injury issues.
Randal Kolo Muani might have to hit the ground running for Tottenham
Tottenham will hope that Randal Kolo Muani manages to make an instant impact at N17 following his high-profile switch from PSG. The France international has proved time and again that he can adapt to different leagues instantly, and fans will hope that he does the same during his time in the Premier League. The prolific attacker’s versatility is something that Thomas frank might look to exploit as the season goes on.
However, Julien Laurens does not believe that Kolo Muani would improve Spurs in any way this season. Speaking on ESPN via Youtube, Laurens said,
“But I’m not sure [about] him arriving at the club. And yet there’s Richarlison and [Dominic] Solanke, and I can see him playing ahead of them, too, if he does better and if he takes his chances and stuff like that. I’m just not sure how much this moved the needle for Spurs in a huge season where they would be back in the Champions League.”
The football expert added,
“Plus the league where, as we saw already against Bournemouth, they were so inoffensive. I’m not sure, Kolo Muani, if you bring him instead of Richarlison in the team that lost to Bournemouth on Saturday in the whole 90 minutes, that Kolo Muani changes this. I’m not sure this was the right profile, but at least they just have, again, another body.”
Julien Laurens believes that Randal Kolo Muani will become the first-choice striker for Thomas Frank if he makes an instant impact at N17. However, the football expert is not sure if the Frenchman will improve the team in any way as they prepare for Champions League football. Laurens also admits that Kolo Muani would not have made a difference for Spurs during their Premier League defeat against Bournemouth as well, highlighting the lack of planning while signing the PSG outcast.
The only way Kolo Muani can shut down the critics is by making a solid impact for Tottenham from the get-go. The France international will look to prove his worth at N17 under Thomas Frank as the club prepares to compete hard on all four fronts. And who knows? The 26-year-old might just the difference-maker that the Lilywhites are looking for.
