Tottenham-linked Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface joined Werder Bremen on loan on transfer deadline day
Tottenham Hotspur pulled off Randal Kolo Muani’s deal on transfer deadline day out of nowhere.
Reports emerged over the weekend that Spurs had enquired Paris Saint-Germain about Randal Kolo Muani, but even then, the striker was still holding out to join Juventus. But following Juventus’ decision to withdraw from talks and instead sign Lois Openda on loan from RB Leipzig, the France international quickly became attracted to the idea of joining the north London club.
Kolo Muani has joined Thomas Frank’s side on a season-long from Paris Saint-Germain. That said, before Kolo Muani’s acquisition, Tottenham were seemingly looking for other striker options in the market.

Tottenham-linked Bayer Leverkusen striker seals Werder Bremen loan move
As per latest reports, Bayer Leverkusen had offered Victor Boniface to several clubs including Spurs after his failed AC Milan transfer. The Italian club had agreed to sign the Nigeria international for a €5 million loan fee and a €24m buy clause, but the deal collapsed last month.
On deadline day, reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano shared on his X account that Werder Bremen have signed Victor Boniface on loan from Bayer Leverkusen. The striker signed a season-long loan deal until 2026, with Werder Bremen covering part of his salary.
Boniface was one of the best strikers in Germany during the 2023/24 campaign, netting 22 goals in 55 games for Bayer Leverkusen after joining from Union SG. His goals were extremely crucial in helping Bayer win their maiden Bundesliga title and going the entire domestic campaign undefeated under then boss Xabi Alonso.
The last campaign was a tough one due to injury problems, limiting the 24-year-old to only 19 Bundesliga appearances. He missed 14 games due to multiple injury problems, as Bayer finished second and 13 points behind champions Bayern Munich.
Spurs must be happy to have got Kolo Muani loan deal over the line
After the 2024/25 campaign that was derailed due to an injury crisis, the last thing Tottenham required was to sign an injury-prone player. If one looks at Boniface’s injury record, it does not provide a good reading. So, there was always a big risk attached to the African centre-forward’s signing, which Spurs decided to not take.
Instead, Daniel Levy and Co. have done well to land Kolo Muani- a player the north Londoners wanted to bring in during the 2025 January transfer window, but the PSG man’s snub to join Juventus prompted them to move for Mathys Tel. Now that after nine months the Frenchman has become a part of the club, it is now up to Thomas Frank to get the best out of him.
