Tottenham swooped in to sign Randal Kolo Muani on deadline day after talks between Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus broke down
Tottenham Hotspur enjoyed a productive summer transfer window, bringing in multiple quality players.
The Hotspur Way chiefs focused on reinforcing the attack to offset the departure of club legend Son Heung-min and loss of James Maddison to a serious knee injury. This led to them signing four attackers- Mathys Tel, Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons and Randal Kolo Muani.
Randal Kolo Muani was Spurs’ final signing of the summer transfer window. In the wake of Dominic Solanke’s ankle injury, the north London club acted swiftly to replace him with the Frenchman. They signed him on a season-long from Paris Saint-Germain on deadline day, with no option or obligation to buy, but it was initially not an easy deal to pull off.
Furious PSG chief warned Juventus after collapsed Randal Kolo Muani deal
Kolo Muani had for a long time looked set to re-join Juventus. After falling out of favour under Luis Enrique at PSG, the forward spent the second half of last season on loan with Juventus, where he scored ten goals in 22 appearances.
Juventus had agreed terms with PSG for another loan, with an option to make the move permanent for around £43million. However, talks between the two clubs eventually collapsed, owing to several changes to the structure of the deal seemingly made by Juve’s general manager Damien Comolli. This left PSG chief Nasser Al-Khelaifi furious with Comolli, so much so that he lost patience with the Turin club’s negotiations tactics and pulled the plug on the deal altogether.
And Al-Khelaifi’s explosive message to Juve’s key decision-makers has now been revealed by French outlet Sports Zone on X. Fed up with Juve’s proposals, the Saudi Arabian businessman picked up his phone and was very direct with the Serie A club’s management:
“You’ve been messing with us for weeks, it’s over, you won’t get your way with me. I’ll remember your tactics, trust me on that,” Al-Khelaifi declared.
After cancelling the deal with Juve, the Parisian club’s honcho instructed Kolo Muani’s agent to find a solution with other clubs. This gave Tottenham a window of opportunity to swoop in and secure a straight loan for the France international.
Juventus’ loss is Tottenham’s gain
Comolli’s idea to alter the agreement in the final stretches of negotiations with PSG for Kolo Muani saw Juve eventually pay the price. They not only missed out on one of summer’s top targets but also strained relationship with PSG.
Nonetheless, the Turin giants’ loss is purely Tottenham’s gain here, with Kolo Muani set to don the famous white for the 2025/26 season. After failing to get his signature during the January transfer window, Spurs chiefs must be happy to finally land the 26-year-old eight months later.
Versatile, technically gifted, physical and creative, the France international would give a slightly different dynamic to the Lilywhites’ attack than Richarlison. Kolo Muani regained his confidence with a solid loan five-month loan spell with Juventus, and his experience of playing at the highest level in Europe should come in handy for Thomas Frank’s side. Hopefully, he hits the ground running at N17 after the international break and excites our fans throughout the campaign.
