Daniel Levy has ended his 25-year stint at Tottenham after the club announced the Englishman’s decision to step down
Tottenham fans have woken up to some shocking news in the last few days as the club announced the departure of Daniel Levy out of nowhere. The Spurs chairman suddenly decided to step down from his role, indicating a massive shift in the club’s hierarchy following the Europa League success in May.
After years of protests held against Levy, fans will be happy to see the back of him now. It is fair to say that the Englishman’s tenure at N17 was full of ups and downs. The performances on the pitch were nowhere near good enough, which resulted in just two major trophies since 2001. This clearly indicated that the Spurs chairman was out of his depth and lost his focus on matters on the pitch.

However, it is fair to say that Levy more than made up for it by making Tottenham a successful commercial club. He ran the club responsibly, and made it a profitable organisation from top to bottom. The state-of-the-art training facility and a world-class stadium lured new players to N17, as well as, generated revenues week in week out as the Lilywhites became an English powerhouse off the field.
Daniel Levy’s departure from Tottenham was not expected anytime soon
Well, no one can deny the fact that Daniel Levy has certainly built a solid platform for Tottenham to go take the next step towards becoming a giant in English football. The Lilywhites are financially strong and have a brilliant stadium that generates revenues regularly. And now all that is left for the North London club is to cross the final hurdle and start winning trophies regularly.
But there is still a sense of shock around N17 following the departure of Daniel Levy. Ex-Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino was seen lost for words when asked about Levy’s exit from N17. Speaking in a presser, Pochettino told Sky Sports (via X),
“I am a little bit in shock because he was my former president. I don’t know what happened there. Of course, I sent a text to him, and I sent a text to different people that were very close to him. I wish him the best… my relationship [with him] always was very good, and yes, I was in shock.”
Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy worked in cohesion for most parts of the Argentine’s tenure at N17. It was under Pochettino that Spurs managed to reach the UEFA Champions League final, and go within touching distance of winning the Premier League. However, Pochettino’s time in North London ended on a sour note as he was harshly sacked just a few months after he led the club to their first Champions League final.
Whether you like Daniel Levy or not, it is fair to acknowledge the impact he had at N17 during the last two decades. The Englishman oversaw turbulent times at Tottenham during the initial years, with the club fighting at the wrong end of the Premier League table. However, by the end of his tenure, Levy made sure that the Lilywhites were regularly competing for a spot in the Champions League instead.
