“He’s very advanced for his age…” – Podcast host backs 16yo starlet for Tottenham debut this month

Tottenham Hotspur have been making themselves into a club that prioritises young players and their development, as we saw Daniel Levy pushing to have this conveyor belt from the academy to the first team in past years. And now we are seeing the talents from the academy at Hotspur Way roll along quite frequently.

While the last golden boy who was integrated into the first team setup, Mikey Moore, is still finding his way, the academy has again spat out another talent. The next name off the line from Hotspur Way could be 16-year-old Luca Williams-Barnett.

Mikey Moore’s coming through showed how strong the academy is getting, with the winger now on loan at Rangers after tasting Europa League success last season. And Williams-Barnett has already been showing his talent at the youth level. He had 32 goal contributions in 23 U18 appearances last season and also won Goal of the Season for his stunning halfway line strike against Leicester. The teenager has started the 2025/26 season in similar fashion as well, given his four goal involvements in four U18 games.

Wenham backs Luca Williams-Barnett for first team debut

Thomas Frank's first real head ache at Tottenham Hotspur, how will he act? - Opinion.
Thomas Frank is known to hand opportunities to young players during his time at Brentford and he could start that at Tottenham with Luca Williams-Barnett.

The attacking midfielder is already quite highly rated at Hotspur Way. And now John Wenham, owner of the reputed Spurs podcast Lilywhites Rose, believes that the teenager can be handed his senior debut for the North Londoners when Thomas Frank’s side rub shoulders against Doncaster Rovers in the Carabao Cup later this month.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, he said:

“I’ve seen Williams-Barnett probably a lot more than most. I can tell you know, he’s very advanced for his age.

“Doncaster at home, that might be the time that Williams-Barnett could be involved in the squad and maybe come off the bench and make his debut. It seems like a good occasion for that.”

Author Opinion

We know for a fact that Thomas Frank has a reputation for bringing through young players and developing them to their potential. We saw how he did so time and again at Brentford, and it looks like the upcoming crop of players from the academy at N17 will have a similar chance.

And while Williams-Barnett is the main name to get a run-in, there are also a couple of others. Tynan Thompson and Oliver Boast. The former has an impressive pre-season outing against Wycombe. While the latter joined from Leeds United in the recently concluded summer transfer window and has already been making an impression for himself with the U18s.

Tottenham boast a lot of starlets on their books at Hotspur Way, and with Frank, a lot of them can go on to work into their potential.

Do you think Tottenham will hand Williams-Barnett his first team debut? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
