Ange Postecoglou passes on opportunity replace another former Tottenham boss, Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahce
Tottenham Hotspur oversaw a managerial swap at the commencement of the ongoing campaign where Thomas Frank took over the reins from Ange Postecoglou. While the former Brentford boss was swiftly named his successor in North London, Postecoglou has still been weighing up his next move.
Now the Australian has been out of work since his sacking at N17. While that came as a surprise to many given the fact that he won the Europa League, his 17th-place finish in the Premier League was the end of him at Hotspur Way.
And now Ange Postecoglou has rejected an immediate return to management.
In the process, the former Tottenham boss had made it clear he will take his managerial role only if it comes in one of Europe’s top five leagues.
The Australian has been out of work since his sacking at Spurs earlier in the summer, when a disastrous Premier League campaign saw the club finish 17th. Despite lifting the Europa League in his second stint in charge, it wasn’t enough to save him.
Fenerbahce approached Ange Postecoglou
According to a report by journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, Turkish giants Fenerbahce have made an approach to bring Postecoglou after Jose Mourinho was sacked by them. The sack came because the Portuguese manager failed to bring Champions League football to Fener after losing to Benfica in the play-off round.
But Postecoglou went on to decline the offer.
There is an understanding that the 59-year-old has no intention of rushing back into a role on the touchline outside of Europe’s elite competitions. He only wants to take up projects which end up matching his ambitions.

There were also rumours surrounding his possible return to other sides along the summer window, but he didn’t end up taking up any of those and is still out of management at the moment. His all-out attack football did give Tottenham supporters a lot of excitement, but it also came with an equally ample amount of defensive anxiety.
Ange has been in management for a long time, and there was a lot of pressure that came with representing that Lilywhites badge in the past years. And this could possibly be why he would be taking some time away at the moment before he gets back to the touchline.
