Bryan King believes Daniel Levy was working on his Tottenham Hotspur exit for a while now
Many of Tottenham Hotspur supporters have still been processing the surprise exit that Daniel Levy announced last week. He has been at the helm at Hotspur Way for the better part of 25 years, and now the 63-year-old is stepping aside. He has been calling shots at N17 as far as most of the Lilywhites faithful would remember.
Levy exit was in work since Christmas?
With Levy stepping aside, Peter Charrington will be moving in as the new chairman at Hotspur Way. And while the dotted lines around the whole saga seem a bit odd, this has been brewing behind the scenes for months.
And if the words from former Spurs scout Bryan King are to be believed, the decision of Levy walking out the doors wasn’t a snap one. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, he insisted how this has been in the works since last Christmas and how the transfer dealings from the North Londoners in the recently concluded summer window show that.
Here is what he said via Tottenham Hotspur News:
“All I can say is that when Frank agreed to join, Levy must have explained his position to him. Because if he didn’t, then I would imagine that Frank will feel very, very uneasy.
“These things are not done in three months; this is something that must have been in the pipeline since Christmas.”

This whole situation has left Thomas Frank in a bit of a peculiar position. The Dane head coach is barely through the doors at Hotspur Way, and he is still finding his rhythm in North London. But now the former Brentford manager has lost the man who drove his appointment at N17. And that is quite a big shift behind the scenes for any manager.
The Dane has come to a place where the structure was already fragile. And Daniel Levy was a big reason behind why he signed on the dotted line after leaving a quite settled role with the Bees. You’d think that if Levy knew about him stepping away, he would have spoken about this with Frank. And if Frank was not informed, suddenly you think how unsettled Frank would be feeling in his office right now.
At the moment it does not look like there is going to be a structural overhaul at Tottenham. With Vinai Venkatesham and Johan Lange in place, it doesn’t appear that the Lewis family are looking to sell. But then maybe in the coming months we could see Frank’s authority being tested (especially if results start to go the other way).
