Turkish journalist claims why Fenerbahce pulled the plug on a deal for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma has been linked with a move away from N17 all summer after falling down the pecking order under new boss Thomas Frank.

Due to disciplinary issues, the Mali international was banished from the matchday squad for Spurs’ UEFA Super Cup game against Paris Saint-Germain at the start of the August due to disciplinary issues. Since then, he has missed the first three games of the new Premier League season with fitness issues.

The 29-year-old looked destined to leave Tottenham at the end of the summer transfer window, only for his move to Galatasaray to collapse in the final stages. Yves Bissouma is yet to make a competitive appearance for his club this season, and with the transfer window still open in Turkey and Saudi Arabia, there could still be an opportunity for him to leave.

Journo reveals why Yves Bissouma’s move to Fenerbahce collapsed

While Spurs want to offload Bissouma, it is now unlikely that Fenerbahce will pursue a move for the midfielder. This is due to a list of the player’s personal issues, leaving Tottenham in a spot of bother.

Now, Turkish journalist Sercan Hamzaoglu has spoken on why Fenerbahce have abandoned their pursuit of the African enforcer. He reveals that apart from the Tottenham outcast’s injury problem, they were also informed of issues in his personal life, which has seen the Istanbul-based club cool their interest. Here is what he said on FutbolArena via X:

“Fenerbahçe was going to sign Bissouma. But he has an injury problem. He has a trial. He has a nightlife. He is a very good player, but you have to take a lot of risks to transfer him. They put a whole sheet of paper in front of Ali Koc about the player’s problems,”

What’s next with Bissouma?

This update from a Turkish journalist over Fenerbahce not pursuing a move for Bissouma should lead to massive frustration to the Tottenham boss and the fans. The Malian has failed to live up to billing at White Hart Lane since his move from Brighton and Hove Albion in 2022, and with him entering the final year of his contract, the club chiefs had hoped to offload him in this window and get some fee.

With summer signing Joao Palhinha quickly forming a strong understanding with Rodrigo Bentancur in the midfield double pivot, Bissouma has no realistic route back into the starting XI after overcoming his fitness issues. Nonetheless, the north Londoners remain determined to trim the squad and may now have to accept a reduced fee to move him on.

For the Ivory Coast-born star, a move could provide a fresh start in his career and regular game time, while Spurs would free up space in midfield and on the wage bill. The next couple of days will be interesting to gauge what happens to him.
