Fraser Forster is still without a club after being released by Tottenham upon the expiry of his contract at the end of June
There are now just over three months left until clubs will be able to begin negotiating pre-contracts for European players whose deals expire in the summer of 2026.
Tottenham Hotspur let go no less than 13 players at the end of last season, of which three senior stars were released. One of them was goalkeeper Fraser Forster.
Fraser Forster joined Spurs in the summer of 2022 following several years at Southampton and featured in the early stages of their UEFA Europa League triumph in May. During the entire 2024/25 season, the experienced shot-stopper made 13 appearances, including four in the Europa League. Overall, he made 34 appearances for the Lilywhites.
The former England international did well when initially deputising for the injured No.1 Guglielmo Vicario, but mistakes started creeping in soon. This made the Spurs defence extremely shaky, forcing the club to sign Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague during the January transfer window.
Ex-Premier League goalkeeper surprised to see no buyers for Fraser Forster
Having been released by Tottenham upon the expiry of his contract on June 30, 2025, Forster is now a free agent. However, the veteran Englishman still being without a club has surprised former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster. Here is what he said via his Youtube channel:
“I don’t understand why they don’t have a team already. Scott Carson and Fraser Forster, for me, seem like the easiest choices in the world.”
“Because you’ve got to get that English core, that British homegrown talent, that’s your third-choice goalie straight away. They’re just absolute gimmes, [they] tick boxes.”
Forster has a wealth of experience in English football, having represented several clubs including Southampton, Celtic and Tottenham. Despite being 37, he is still in a good shape and can easily contribute at least for the next couple of years.
We agree with Foster’s thoughts on both Forster and Carson, with the former making enough appearances for Tottenham last season. The ex-England international would be an experienced addition to any squad in the Premier League, Championship or Scottish Premiership, and would help meet the British quota.
Tottenham are covered in the goalkeeping department in their squad, with Kinsky a back-up to Vicario, while Brandon Austin serves as a third-choice option. That said, there is no point for the north London to re-sign Forster.
