Tottenham are looking to hand Rodrigo Bentancur a new contract
Tottenham Hotspur are actively trying to offload Yves Bissouma before the transfer window in Turkey and Saudi Arabia slams shut.
The 29-year-old is yet to feature for Spurs in the Premier League this season. Last month, Thomas Frank admitted that he was forced to leave Bissouma out of their squad to face Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup due to persistent lateness. Since then, the Mali international has failed to make the squad in the Lilywhites’ opening three league games of the 2025/26 season.
Latest reports suggest Fenerbahce pulled out the plug on a deal for Bissouma due to several off-field reasons. With the player having entered the final 12 months of his contract, the Lilywhites may now be forced to accept a modest fee or a loan with an obligation to buy to move the African enforcer off the books this summer. Well, another Tottenham player who is now into the final year of his contract is Rodrigo Bentancur.

Tottenham want to secure future of Rodrigo Bentancur
According to an exclusive report from TBR Football, Tottenham are planning to accelerate contract talks with Rodrigo Bentancur. Thomas Frank has been impressed by the central midfielder, and the Danish tactician wants the club to secure his future with a new deal.
Bentancur will be eligible to strike a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from January 1, so Spurs are wary of his contractual situation. And as Atletico Madrid are planning to sign the Uruguayan international on a free transfer at the end of the season, the north Londoners have the urgency to reach an agreement with the player as soon as possible.
The aforementioned report adds Tottenham’s new CEO Vinai Venkatesham is currently working on the midfielder’s new deal. Frank has made it clear to the club that Bentancur is a key part of his plans, and Venkatesham is doing his best behind the scenes to ensure he commits his future to N17.

Bentancur is showing the best version of himself in a Tottenham shirt. After the last couple of years of persistent injury issue and inconsistency, the South American has been thriving in Frank’s 4-2-3-1 system. He is now one of the first names on the teamsheet, building a strong partnership with summer signing Joao Palhinha in the double pivot.
With Atletico Madrid lurking in the background, the Spurs CEO must try securing the player’s future as quickly as possible. It is good sign that the club are planning to accelerate contract talks.
