Tottenham Hotspur have raised funds of around £90million through media rights deal

Tottenham Hotspur are understood to have pocketed a huge sum of money after a new development.

Daniel Levy stepped down from his role as executive chairman last week, in a decision that brought his 25-year stint at the helm in north London to an end. The 63-year-old’s exit signifies the end of an era for the club, who have been heavily linked with a takeover in recent months.

Many have speculated that Daniel Levy’s departure could be a sign Tottenham’s majority owner ENIC is now willing to sell up their vast stake. However, Tottenham CEO Vinai Venkatesham has categorically denied such rumours, insisting there will be no changes to the ownership of the club. Instead, Vinai Venkatesham, who assumed the CEO role in April, hinted that investment may be on the way to Spurs, suggesting that ENIC know that a cash injection is required for the club to compete for major honours.

According to a report from Bloomberg, Tottenham have now raised about £90million through a receivables financing deal with Macquarie Group Ltd. This has come at a time when the club is restructuring its management in its latest attempt for silverware.

The Lilywhites has been losing money after constructing a new stadium, and as a result, they have agreed to give the Australian-based lender “income from future broadcasting rights for a lump sum of cash. The report adds the rights are tied to money due to Spurs from the Premier League between December 2025 to May 2026.

Other Premier League clubs, including Nottingham Forest, have also struck similar deals with Macquarie Group in the past.

Shift in ENIC’s mindset?

ENIC hold the majority stake in Spurs, but they have no interest in selling at this point, making that very clear already. Indeed, it is believed that their intentions lie with building further success on the pitch after overseeing the Europa League trophy.

The Lewis family have pumped very little money into the Tottenham since buying the club back in 2001, which is why many fans are sceptical about claims that they are suddenly prepared to change the way they operate and show ambition in the transfer market. The media rights deal could well be a new hint from Tottenham’s ownership group, they are not looking to agree a takeover deal in the foreseeable future following their efforts to bring in more money.

The north Londoners have a great platform to build on after last season’s Europa League success, with Thomas Frank now at the helm. The new-look Spurs board has a massive task of ensuring that the focus shifts back to competing and winning trophies.
