Tottenham star Lucas Bergvall hoping to feature in the upcoming game against Villarreal in the Champions League
Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall has clearly worked his way up to reach the highest level. The Sweden international impressed at various clubs before joining the Lilywhites on a long-term deal last summer. Now the 19-year-old is set for his first Champions League campaign as the north London club prepare for European nights at N17.
Spurs secured Champions League football for this season against all odds under Ange Postecoglou. The Lilywhites were nowhere near good enough to qualify via the Premier League table. However, the club’s historic Europa League run ensured their place in the elite competition.
Now Tottenham will look to mount a strong campaign in Europe and go deep in the Champions League under Thomas Frank. The Danish tactician has already said he aims to compete on all four fronts this season. Reaching the later stages of the competition is the least fans should expect from the former Brentford boss and his team this year.
Lucas Bergvall cannot contain his excitement about playing Champions League football for Tottenham
Playing in the Champions League is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many, and the same goes for Bergvall. The Spurs midfielder will now have the chance to showcase his talent against top European teams on a consistent basis, and to play among elite players regularly.
When asked about the prospect of featuring in his first Champions League game for Tottenham, Bergvall told the club’s media team (via X),
“It’s been a dream since I was little boy to play in the Champions League. Really looking forward to that. I’ll feel like a kid. Watching the competition, you always wanted to play and on Tuesday I’ll get to play my first game.”
The Sweden international added,
“So looking forward to it. It’s one of the biggest things you can accomplish in your life. And in football, to play in the Champions League at the highest level is going to be emotional for me.”
It is clear that the competition means a lot to Bergvall. The Sweden international is excited to make his debut when Tottenham face Villarreal in the coming days. There is also a possibility that the 19-year-old’s emotions could get the better of him if he features against the Yellow Submarine.
Fans will hope Bergvall keeps his emotions in check and focuses on the job at hand. Anything less than three points against Villarreal will be seen as a disappointing result, given the game is at home. Thomas Frank will also hope his players bring their best and stick to the game plan.
