Tottenham fans could see Fabio Paratici return to N17 in the coming weeks if all goes to plan
Tottenham fans have endured a roller-coaster summer after seeing the club go through massive changes overnight. From sacking a manager immediately after their Europa League success to missing out on top summer targets in a manner that publicly embarrassed the club, a lot has happened that supporters will not forget any time soon.
However, topping it all is the departure of Daniel Levy from N17. The Englishman suddenly announced his exit from Spurs last week, leaving fans in shock. Few expected Levy to call it quits immediately after saving face in the transfer window, but the former Spurs chairman thought otherwise, or was forced to think otherwise by the Lewis family (the majority stakeholders of ENIC).
Now, Spurs are hoping to kick-start a new era at N17 with Vinai Venkatesham at the helm. The Lewis family are keen to back the Lilywhites as they aim to build on Europa League success and shift focus towards the footballing side of things. The main priority for Vinai and co. is recruiting top players to strengthen the team under Thomas Frank.
Fabio Paratici expected to rejoin Tottenham despite Levy’s shock exit
Tottenham managed to save face in the transfer window after falling short for most of the summer. The Lilywhites’ lack of planning exposed Johan Lange’s shortcomings, and it is fair to say this is not the first time the Dane has struggled in the market.
Lange’s inability to land top summer targets is exactly why Spurs are pushing to bring Fabio Paratici back to N17. It was reported earlier that the Lilywhites were keen to re-sign the Italian once his ban was lifted in July. Paratici made a lasting impression at the north London club thanks to his ability to recruit top players on long-term deals.
Even so, Levy’s shock departure raised concerns about Paratici’s return. Reports stated that the Italian was a close confidant of Levy, and that the former chairman trusted no one more than Paratici when it came to negotiating for elite players. Fans’ worries about the former technical director’s comeback to Hotspur Way were therefore understandable.
The Telegraph now reports that Tottenham are planning to reignite talks regarding Paratici’s role following the expiration of his ban. The Italian is also keen to join the north London club in the coming weeks, despite Levy’s exit, and is open to either a consultancy role or a full-time position.
It remains to be seen how Vinai Venkatesham handles negotiations with the Italian. Bringing in Paratici would surely prove a masterstroke, as he knows his way around football and has shown time and again that he can be an asset to the club.
