Tottenham have endured a brilliant start to the new season under Thomas Frank

A lot has changed at Tottenham in recent months, both on and off the pitch. Among the major shifts at the North London club, the biggest significant has been the appointment of Thomas Frank. The Danish tactician’s arrival has already proven to be a master stroke, with the Lilywhites looking solid and resolute under his management.

Credit where its due, the former Brentford boss has transformed Spurs into a defensively resolute side this season. The Lilywhites have already kept four clean sheets in their opening five games, highlighting the huge strides they have made under Thomas Frank. They are not conceding goals cheaply, and the players look far more assured at the back.

Micky van de Ven believes Thomas Frank has transformed Tottenham in more ways than one this season.

Given how last season unfolded for the North London club, few expected Thomas Frank to make such an immediate impact at N17. Yet the Dane has managed to win over the Spurs faithful from the outset, delivering a brilliant start to the new campaign. The Lilywhites now look tactically fluid, with players being deployed in roles that play to their strengths.

Micky van de Ven thinks Tottenham look compact and clinical

Tottenham have become a far tougher side to break down under Thomas Frank this season. There is noticeably less chaos on the pitch, and the players seem to be thriving in their defined roles. Every player in the squad has a certain role to play on and off the ball. The fans have also been impressed with how quickly Frank has managed to integrate his system at N17.

Micky Van de Ven has now echoed that sentiment, admitting that Spurs are not easy to play against this season. Speaking in his post-match presser after the Champions League game, Van de Ven said (via BBC Sport),

“I think we are a difficult team to play against, for sure. Structure-wise we are standing really good and we all know what to do, so we’re a difficult team to beat.”

Micky van de Ven made it clear that Tottenham are not the same team as last season. The Dutchman pointed out that the structure Thomas Frank has implemented is far better suited to the players, who are executing instructions effectively. The Spurs defender also stressed that the Lilywhites are much harder to play against this season.

Fans will now be hoping that the North London club continues its winning momentum and build on the performance against Villarreal. Starting their Champions League campaign with three points certainly gives Spurs a solid platform to build on as the season progresses.
