Luka Vuskovic expected to be ready to step into the Premier League if Tottenham recalls him from loan at Hamburg
Luka Vuskovic officially arrived at Tottenham Hotspur at the start of July, two years on from when the north London club paid £13m to sign him from Hajduk Split. He spent the last two seasons out on loan and enjoyed a successful spell with Belgian club KVC Westerlo during the 2024/25 campaign.
The teenager was the talk of the town after he delivered a couple of eye-catching performances during the pre-season, but Thomas Frank and Spurs decided it would be in his best interests to go out on loan again. This saw the defender seal a loan switch to Bundesliga club HSV Hamburger in August.
However, this situation might be about to change imminently. It has recently emerged that the Lilywhites have the option to recall Luka Vuskovic from his loan spell with HSV Hamburger in the January transfer window. They will be able to exercise that clause midway through the season in case there is an injury crisis at the club.

Vuskovic ready to step into the Premier League if recalled by Tottenham
Vuskovic has joined Hamburg to get regular minutes under his belt and continue his development. The defender recently made his debut for Hamburg in the 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
However, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King feels that Vuskovic would be ready to step into the Premier League if Tottenham meet with an emergency and decide to cut short his loan at Hamburg. Here is what he exclusively told Tottenham News.
“I think he (Vuskovic) would be ready for the Premier League.”
“He’s been out on loan before, and now he’s playing in the Bundesliga, and that’s a good standard.
“I don’t know whether he’d go straight into the team if he was recalled, that would probably be down to whether the injury was to (Cristian) Romero, (Micky) Van de Ven or somebody else.
“Plenty of young players got the chance last year and proved that they were capable of playing in the Premier League, and it will be the same with him.”

Vuskovic must stay at Hamburg
Vuskovic, who has drawn comparisons with compatriot and Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol, was part of the Hamburg side that was torn to shreds by Bayern Munich last weekend. The newly-promoted Hamburg’s first and foremost motto will be to secure top-flight safety, and the Tottenham loanee will have a big role to play in that.
Spurs decided to let the Croatian international leave on loan with the idea of him getting regular minutes in the competitive Bundesliga. Keeping that in mind, they must do their best to avoid activating the recall clause in his contract, even if Frank faces problems in defence during the second half of the season.
It would be in the best interest for Vuskovic to stay at Hamburg, complete the full season, and return to Tottenham in the summer of 2026 as a more matured player.
