Tottenham Hotspur are keeping a close eye on Barcelona star Ronald Araujo
Tottenham Hotspur have played 4 Premier League games and 1 UEFA Champions League game so far in the 2025-26 season, and in 4 of these 5 games, they were able to keep a clean sheet. The only game in which they conceded a goal was the match against Bournemouth, which incidentally also happened to be their only defeat so far this season.
In addition to being a testament to the scheme and structure that Thomas Frank has brought to this team, this good defensive record also sheds a good light on the backline, especially the centre-back pairing of Cristian Romero and Mikey van de Ven.
However, Spurs still continue to be linked with other centre-backs in the market, and this was also the case in the last stage of the last summer transfer window, as they remained linked with the likes of Piero Hincapie, Nathan Ake, and Manuel Akanji.
Now, as per a report from Fichajes, the Lilywhites are also keeping a close eye on the Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo, whose future at the Catalan club looks quite uncertain as he has not enjoyed the expected prominence since the arrival of Hansi Flick.

Last season, the Blaugrana coach preferred a centre-back pairing of Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez. With the latter’s departure last summer, Araujo got some opportunities at the start of the new season, but once again, he has been relegated to the bench lately, with Andreas Christensen and Eric Garcia enjoying more prominence.
Liverpool determined to land the Uruguayan
However, despite his situation at the Spanish club, it would not really be easy for Tottenham to land him. This is particularly the case as Liverpool seem to be very determined to sign the Uruguayan, and are willing to offer up to €50 million to sign him.
For now, it remains to be seen how the defender’s future will pan out. Still, it is quite clear that he would be a very good addition to this Spurs squad, especially as he has proven himself to be a top-class defender at Barcelona in the last few years, and he would be a very useful alternative for Thomas Frank to rotate with Romero and de Ven.
