Alan Shearer lauds Tottenham winger Mohammed Kudus for his performance in the 2-2 draw with Brighton
Tottenham Hotspur produced a spirited comeback to salvage a point against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.
Goals from Richarlison and a deflection off Jean Paul van Hecke helped the Lilywhites come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Brighton at the Amex Stadium. The north Londoners did not start well in the game and were punished by the Seagulls, but they showed character and grit against a side that has been so formidable at home against a ‘top-six club’ since the start of last season.
After the game, former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer has been raving about one of Tottenham’s top performers and claimed he’s been enthralled by his start to the new season.
Alan Shearer was impressed by Mohammed Kudus vs Brighton
Shearer has confessed that he was once again impressed by Mohammed Kudus’ performance in a Tottenham shirt, and this time against Brighton at Amex Stadium.
Spurs shocked the footballing world by landing Mohammed Kudus from London rivals West Ham United in July. Since the UEFA Super Cup, the Ghanaian international has been the team’s best attacker by a country mile. He has tirelessly carried the Lilywhites’ attack on his shoulders by taking defenders on, driving the team forward and creating chances in the final third. The 25-year-old has been the archetypal winger Spurs fans have been craving for so long.
Kudus has already produced game-changing moments for Spurs in his short time, helping Thomas Frank’s side win four of their opening five Premier League games of the new campaign. The African star is yet to get his name on the scoresheet, but has compensated his lack of goals with four assists- with two of those coming at Brighton.
Former Spurs striker Jermain Defoe has backed Kudus to take the club to the next level. And Shearer called him a “real threat” vs Fabian Hurzeler’s Brighton side.
“Kudus done really well again, I thought,” Shearer said on the Rest is Football podcast.
“I thought he was a real threat. He was a real threat, wasn’t he? Yeah, 2-0 down, you’re always going to take 2-2, aren’t you? But I thought they were worthy of a point, and Thomas Frank’s made a really good start, hasn’t he?”
Kudus proving to be a bargain buy
Kudus has hit the ground running and helped Tottenham climb up to third in the Premier League table. Thomas Frank has found a gem in the former Ajax man, someone who he can build the attack around. The Ghana ace has shown enough to suggest he’s not only quality on the ball but a real grafter off it.
And going by his initial displays, the £55m spent by the Lilywhites now looks like an absolute snip. That being said, however, Frank needs to manage Kudus’ fitness well throughout the season to get the best out of him.
