Tottenham loanee Luka Vuskovic claims he broke his finger before scoring the first goal for HSV Hamburger in the 2-1 win over Heidenheim

Tottenham Hotspur were decimated by injuries last season, which majorly hampered their performances and results in the Premier League. While they managed to salvage the campaign by winning the Europa League, a 17th-place finish in the Premier League table led to the sacking of Ange Postecoglou.

The injury issues have not completely stopped, with new boss Thomas Frank dealing with some of absentees. James Maddison suffered a calf injury in May that forced him to miss the Europa League final. He recovered from it and returned to action in July, only to suffer an ACL rupture. Dejan Kulusevski has been out since undergoing knee surgery in May, while Dominic Solanke has had persistent issues with his calf.

Yet, the north Londoners have shown plenty of encouraging signs in the early stages of the season, and the last thing that they will want is for injuries to derail their progress under Thomas Frank.

Tottenham loanee suffers suspected broken finger

Tottenham officials have the task of keeping a check on the players who have left the club on loan in the summer. There were several talents that decided to go out on loan in order to gain regular minutes and continue their development. One of those players was Luka Vuskovic.

After officially joining Spurs in July 2025, Luka Vuskovic, in discussions with Thomas Frank and his entourage, decided to leave the club temporarily. The towering centre-back has made the step-up to play in the Bundesliga, joining the newly-promoted side HSV Hamburger. The Croatian international recently made his debut in the Bundesliga, but it turned out to be one that he will want to erase from his memory as quickly as possible.

Luka Vuskovic was a part of the HSV Hamburger side that was thrashed by Harry Kane’s Bayern Munich 5-0. It was a debut to forget for the defender, whose inexperience was exposed on the day. However, the teenager’s second outing in a Hamburg shirt brought comparatively better results, as he scored in the 2-1 win over Heidenheim on Saturday.

Unfortunately, it was not an entirely positive afternoon for the defender, who appears to have sustained a broken finger during the game, after he struck the post following a missed opportunity in the first half. Speaking after the game, Vuskovic opened up about his injury, stating that he has suffered a recurrence of an old injury. (h/t Hamburger Morgenpost):

“I probably broke my finger.

“It’s an old injury, a few months ago I broke my finger. But I was so angry that I missed such a big chance that I hit the post with my hand.”

Vuskovic has a big chance to showcase his credentials in the Bundesliga

Vuskovic helped Hamburger win their first game of the new Bundesliga season last weekend. The centre-back once again showcased his goalscoring prowess, scoring the opener in the 2-1 home win over Heidenheim.

The Split-born talent was visibly frustrated after missing a golden opportunity to give his team an early lead in the first half, which led to him punching the post and damaging his finger. We hope Vuskovic is fine, and the injury does not rule him out of the next game against Union Berlin on Saturday. Young, raw and full of enthusiasm, the Croat must learn to temper his anger/frustration and bring more focus to his game.
