James Maddison continues to step up his recovery from an ACL injury
Tottenham Hotspur boss Thomas Frank has had to deal with several setbacks in his short spell in north London thus far.
Dejan Kulusevski and Radu Dragusin have been out since suffering respective injury problems during the second half of last season, although the latter has returned to team training. Summer signing Kota Takai is yet to clock a minute of competitive action after suffering an injury during training in July.
The biggest blow perhaps came when James Maddison suffered a serious knee injury at the end of July. The English midfielder is expected to miss the majority of the season after rupturing his ACL during Tottenham’s pre-season friendly against Newcastle United in South Korea. He was returning from a thigh injury against Newcastle United that had forced him to miss the UEFA Europa League final against Manchester United last season, only for him to tear ACL on his right knee.

James Maddison gives positive injury update
James Maddison’s injury came at an unfortunate period when Thomas Frank started understanding his players and their qualities at Tottenham, as well as his chances of being in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad being dented. Now, ahead of Spurs’ home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend, the playmaker shared positive update on his injury as he continues to rehab.
Taking to his official Instagram account, the 28-year-old shared a video of him training with an exercise ball. He has been seen putting all his weight on the injured leg, which is a very encouraging sign for Spurs and the fans. This shows that Maddison has already made steady progress, only a couple of months after sustaining a torn ACL.
It is not the first time Maddison has given the fans a glimpse of his recovery process, as he was pictured with Kulusevski recently in the gym.
Maddison ahead of his recovery schedule?
Maddison already working in the gym and doing strengthening exercises suggest he’s ahead of his recovery schedule from an ACL injury. Dragusin had suffered an ACL rupture as well but it took him some time before he started hitting the gym and doing ball work.
Of course, recovery stages and conditioning vary from players to players, but watching Maddison putting strength on his hurt knee already and in great spirits bodes very well for Frank and Tottenham. A return this year is certainly not happening, but if everything goes well in terms of rehab and conditioning, the English playmaker could come back in the business end of the season and help Spurs out.
