Yves Bissouma’s Tottenham career is all but over under Thomas Frank as a January exit looks plausible
As we all know, Tottenham are in dire need of a new midfielder who can provide cover for João Palhinha as the season goes on. In ideal circumstances, Thomas Frank would have had the option of using Yves Bissouma as Palhinha’s replacement in the starting eleven. But the Mali international’s disciplinary issues have forced Frank to banish him from the first-team squad indefinitely.
The 28-year-old has never quite managed to showcase his true potential at N17 following his high-profile switch from Brighton. His footballing ability was never the issue at the North London club, but his lack of discipline held him back from achieving great things with the Lilywhites.
Despite trying hard to offload him all summer, Spurs could not find a suitor for his services. Bissouma was on the cusp of joining Fenerbahçe during the business end of the transfer window as well, but the deal fell through after the 28-year-old sustained an injury in training at N17.
Tottenham have a decision to make regarding Yves Bissouma’s future
When asked about Bissouma’s future at N17, Thomas Frank hinted that the Mali international might get a chance to redeem himself once he returns to full fitness. The Danish tactician stated that there were no hard feelings between him and the 28-year-old, making it clear that Bissouma would be given the all clear to be reintegrated with the squad if he trained well and showed good signs.
Bryan King, however, wants Frank to banish the ex-Brighton midfielder to the U-21 squad until he manages to find his way out of the exit doors at N17. Speaking to Tottenham News, King said,
“That’s the kind of disruptive influence that you don’t want at your football club. If one person is late for everything, then other people could start to fall into that trap. I think Spurs have got enough midfielders to send him to train with the U21s. Then, when January comes along, he’ll be a lot keener to get away.”
The ex-scout added,
“If you do that, he’d end up being happy to accept a move anywhere. If I was Frank, I’d make it as uncomfortable for him as he wants to make it uncomfortable for me. I think Frank will be looking to get him out of the club as quickly as possible.”
According to Bryan King, the last thing Thomas Frank needs right now is Bissouma’s disruptive influence in the dressing room. The ex-scout has clearly stated that the Mali international should be sent to train with the youth team until January. King also believes that Frank does not want the 28-year-old in the squad and would look to sell him as soon as the winter transfer window opens.
