“We wanted more” – Tottenham ace bemoans Wolves draw; keen to push on and make amends

Cristian Romero is keen to see Tottenham Hotspur return to winning ways following Wolves draw

Tottenham Hotspur had a frustrating day at work as the Lilywhites went on to draw a must-win game yesterday. Thomas Frank & Co. had to settle for a 1-1 draw against bottom-of-the-table Wolves at N17.

It looked like Tottenham were all set to lose all three points before Joao Palhinha came in and struck deep into stoppage time. That being said, even the shared point feels like a big opportunity missed at Hotspur Way.

And given how dejected most Tottenham supporters have been after yesterday’s display, the Lilywhites skipper Cristian Romero took to social media after full time to directly address the supporters. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Argentine wrote:

“Today was not our match. We wanted more, but it just did not go our way. Now it is all about keeping our heads up, working harder, and pushing forward together.

“Huge thanks to the fans for all the love today. Time to recharge, and on Tuesday we go again. All together always.”

Romero is a leader Tottenham desperately needed

Cristian Romero was handed the captaincy at Tottenham over the summer window.

While the performance yesterday shows that there is still a long way for this team to go under the Dane head coach. It also underlined why he was handed the captaincy over the summer. These words from Romero show how he is not only commanding the dressing room but also putting his hand up as the skipper and taking the words from the fans.

It is the kind of responsibility that Tottenham has badly needed for a while. And Thomas Frank also went on to admit that his side “lost a bit of structure and coolness” after Wolves scored their only goal of the game, which is quite similar to the rallying cry that Romero responds to in his message.

And Romero had a decent game against Wolves yesterday. He was winning his duels and regularly screaming orders at the backline.

TTLB Opinion

Thomas Frank & Co. will have opportunity to show that they learned from Wolves draw this Tuesday as Tottenham face Bodo/Glimt.

This message from Romero shows how he has that determination of a leader. A leader who knows that the standards within the dressing room must be raised quickly. And this result also means that the North Londoners had an opportunity missed to push themselves into second place and into a good space for Champions League qualification.

But Tottenham cannot afford to feel sorry for themselves. It is about taking this draw on the chin and starting to show the learning behind it. And given the current schedule, the North Londoners will have that opportunity this Tuesday as Thomas Frank & Co. travel to Norway to face Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League on Tuesday night before they travel to Elland Road to face another struggling side in Leeds United next weekend.
