Thomas Frank still has a lot of time to rectify the mistakes Tottenham have made and improve the quality of football at N17
Tottenham have enjoyed a promising start to the new season under Thomas Frank. The Lilywhites have picked up three wins from their opening six Premier League matches, with standout victories against Manchester City and West Ham United. However, slip-ups against Wolves and Bournemouth have raised some concerns around N17.
Spurs had a golden opportunity to close the gap on league leaders Liverpool when they hosted Wolves at home on Saturday night. Frank’s men looked well-placed to secure all three points, with momentum and form seemingly on their side as well.

Yet complacency crept in, and the North Londoners nearly let the game slip away. A last-minute equaliser from Joao Palhinha salvaged a point for the Lilywhites, but the result felt more like a defeat, as fans were left frustrated by the failure to capitalise on rivals dropping points elsewhere.
Thomas Frank is still the right man for the job at Tottenham
Despite those setbacks, it is clear that Thomas Frank has already made a positive impact at Spurs. The Danish tactician has instilled structure and organisation, with the team looking more compact, disciplined, and defensively resilient compared to last season. The chaos that often defined Tottenham’s performances under Ange Postecoglou has been replaced by a more measured and pragmatic style.
Seeing how far Spurs have already come under Thomas Frank, ex-Wolves manager Gary O’Neil has also backed the Danish tactician to see through the tough times at N17. Speaking on Sky Sports (via X), O’Neil said,
“I have no doubts that Thomas (Frank) will get this Spurs team where he wants it. I think it’s still very, very early in his tenure. Tottenham shipped a lot of goals and a lot of chances last season, and he’s rectified that. They don’t concede anywhere near as many chances as they were last season.”
The ex-Wolves manager added,
“I think now having played Bournemouth and Wolves at home, I would’ve thought that Thomas and his staff would start to think, ‘okay right, now we need to add another layer to this.’ They need to be a little more attacking if they can.”
Gary O’Neil believes Thomas Frank will surely lead Tottenham to more success in the coming years. The ex-Wolves manager points out that the Danish tactician has already rectified the defensive problems that the club faced last season under Big Ange. And O’Neil is confident that the Spurs manager will learn from his mistakes as the season goes on and will eventually address the attacking issues at N17.
With Spurs competing on all four fronts this campaign, it is crucial for Frank to iron out flaws quickly and find the right balance between defence and attack. Fans will hope he continues to trust his methods, build on the progress already made, and deliver consistent results as the season gradually unfolds.
