Tottenham Hotspur face Newcastle United away from home in the 4th round of the Carabao Cup
Tottenham booked their place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with a comfortable victory over Doncaster Rovers last week. While there were a few anxious faces inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ahead of kick-off, fearing an upset against lower-league opposition, Thomas frank’s side got the job done with little fuss.
Goals from Joao Palhinha and Brennan Johnson, along with an own goal from the Rovers defender, ensured that Spurs qualified for the 4th round of the competition. The performance levels from the Spurs players dropped off in the second half of the game, but they managed to pull through with a professional performance in the end.

It is fair to say that luck did not favour the Lilywhites in the 4th round draw as they were put up against Newcastle United away from home. Given how valuable the Carabao Cup is for Tottenham to build on last season’s success, they could not have gotten a worse fixture to progress in the tournament.
Tottenham will need to come up big at St. James’s Park next month
The Carabao Cup holds significant value for Tottenham this season, as Frank looks to build on last year’s Europa League success with another deep run in a domestic competition. But facing Newcastle United at St. James’ Park presents a daunting challenge. Spurs have struggled badly against the Magpies in recent years, losing their last three visits by heavy margins.
But on the other hand, this tie could provide the perfect opportunity to end that run of poor results. Speaking to Tottenham News, John Wenham echoes that sentiment,
“It’s a difficult draw against Newcastle. But it’s about time we got a win up there, we’ve had some really difficult results there in the last few seasons. So maybe a Cup game is the right opportunity to try and get a win there.”
The Lilywhite Rose owner also cautioned about the fixture congestion Spurs will face around the tie. He added,
“But we’ll have to bear in mind that we’ll be playing them on Wednesday night away and then playing Chelsea at home on Saturday. They are always two really big high-intensity games for Tottenham.”
John Wenham believes that the Carabao Cup fixture could serve as extra motivation for the Tottenham players to finally earn a statement win at Newcastle United, though he admits squad management will be crucial given the looming Premier League clash with Chelsea in the following days.
Thomas Frank has made it clear from the start of the season that he wants Tottenham to compete strongly on all four fronts. For a club hungry to add more silverware at N17, a sustained Carabao Cup run offers one of the most realistic pathways to success. With that in mind, Spurs will need to give everything if they are to progress – and potentially turn a difficult draw into a defining moment in their campaign.
