Savinho may push to join Tottenham in January if he does not get enough minutes under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City
Tottenham Hotspur had tried to sign Manchester City winger Savinho in the summer and have been thinking of returning for him in January.
Spurs saw £42 million offer turned down for the Brazilian international, with Manchester City said to be holding out for a much higher offer worth £67m. It felt that the Sky Blues were willing to sell their player for the right price, and despite a lot of speculation, he ended up staying at the Etihad Stadium.
It has been reported recently that Pep Guardiola played a decisive role in keeping hold of Savinho, who has only recently returned from an injury. Now, the 21-year-old is set to commit his future at Man City by signing a new deal until 2031, smashing Tottenham’s hopes of returning for him in January. However, those hopes may not be dead in the water just yet.

Savinho has endured a slow start to the 2025/26 season
Savinho has been a versatile asset since making the move within the City Football Group from Troyes last year, capable of playing on either flank. He racked up 10 Premier League assists during the 2024/25 season.
The fleet-footed winger missed Man City’s first three games of the 2025/26 campaign through injury but has made four appearances and scored his first goal of the season in a 2-0 Carabao Cup third-round victory over Huddersfield Town last week. He was rewarded with a start against Burnley in the Premier League on the weekend, with City winning 5-1.
Savinho has fallen down the pecking order this season due to a combination of injury issues and intense internal competition. City signed Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt in January and further bolster their attacking ranks in the summer by bringing in Rayan Cherki from Lyon. With the Cityzens already having the likes of Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva, Oscar Bobb and Jeremy Doku, the Brazilian could find game time hard to come by this season.
Savinho could push for Spurs move in January
Being an integral part of Guardiola’s side would make him more likely to go to the World Cup next summer. Keeping the current situation in mind, Football Insider transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke says now that Savinho could push for a January move to Tottenham if he doesn’t get enough minutes at City ahead of the World Cup year.

“A lot will come down to what the player wants to do as well,” Pete O’Rourke revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.
“If he’s not playing regularly between now and January, then maybe that might open the door for Tottenham to rekindle their interest in Savinho. He’ll be thinking he needs to be playing potentially ahead of a World Cup year with Brazil.
“City don’t really want to lose him. I’m sure they’ll want to keep him at least until the end of the season because City are going to need Savinho between now and then and challenge for honours on all fronts as well.
“I’m sure he will get plenty of game time but, I’m sure Spurs are continuing to monitor his situation at City for sure.”
From Tottenham’s perspective, Savinho fits well into Thomas Frank’s system. Frank likes versatile, industrious and creative wingers who can stretch defences with their pace and directness, and the 21-year-old is a player of that exact mould. He is a strong dribbler and possesses the capacity to keep the ball in tight situations.
The South American would immediately take up the left-wing role at White Hart Lane, which has been a bit problematic since Son Heung-min left the club before the start of the new season. With Mohammed Kudus suited to play on the right flank and drift inside, and Xavi Simons excellent as a No.10, the left-wing position is crying for someone like Savinho to come in and own it.
