Rodrigo Bentancur is close to agreeing a new contract with Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur were dealt a body blow in the summer when they lost James Maddison to an ACL injury. The England playmaker’s serious knee injury saw the club scour the transfer market for a quality replacement, and after huffing and puffing for the entire summer, they managed to land Xavi Simons.
Spurs also brought in Joao Palhinha on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich, as Thomas Frank was keen to add some bite and muscle to his engine room. Palhinha has made an immediate impact on his return to the Premier League after a year, and the north London club are already planning to sign him permanently.
Along with that, the Europa League winners are close to agreeing a new deal with one of their stars.
Rodrigo Bentancur close to signing new contract
According to a report from GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham are close to an agreement with Rodrigo Bentancur over a new long-term deal.
Rodrigo Bentancur has just 10 months left on his Spurs deal and will be free to negotiate a pre-contract with foreign clubs once the January transfer window opens. The midfielder has been a consistent fixture for Thomas Frank’s side this season, starting eight out of 10 games in all competitions. He has quickly forged a strong partnership with Palhinha in the engine room, making himself almost undroppable now.
The report adds talks over fresh terms between the club and the Uruguayan international accelerated after the summer transfer window slammed shut last month and have gone smoothly so far. Currently pocketing £75,000-per-week before bonuses, Bentancur is expected to receive a pay hike once he commits his future at White Hart Lane.

Bentancur key to Frank’s plans at N17
It was reported in September that Spurs CEO Vinai Venkatesham had undertaken the task of tying down the 28-year-old midfielder to a new deal. Frank had already made it clear that the South American star is a crucial player for his plans and wants the north London club to secure his future as soon as possible.
Bentancur has not enjoyed a smooth career in England. The ex-Juventus man’s time in north London has been blighted by injury problems and off-field issues, impacting his development as a player. Now into his prime and seemingly having put his injury issues behind him, the Uruguayan still has a lot to offer to Tottenham.
The native from Nueva Helvecia is now set to become the second senior Tottenham player to accept a new contract in recent months after defender Cristian Romero penned a lucrative four-year deal in August.
