Mohammed Kudus has given some insights on what drove him to join Tottenham Hotspur of all clubs in the summer
Tottenham stunned the footballing world with the signing of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United on a long-term deal. Few expected the Lilywhites to secure the Ghanaian international, particularly given the rarity of transfer dealings between the two London rivals. Both clubs have largely avoided direct negotiations in recent years, making Spurs’ capture of one of West Ham’s key players this summer all the more surprising.
Kudus wasted no time in sparking controversy after his arrival, immediately rubbing salt into West Ham’s wounds. The 25-year-old openly admitted that once Tottenham entered the race, there was never any doubt about his decision, a statement that drew plenty of attention and criticism from his former supporters.

On the pitch, however, Kudus has quickly justified his move. The forward marked his home debut at N17 with a standout performance against Burnley, registering two assists for Richarlison in a comfortable 3-0 victory on the opening day. His early impact has underlined why he is already seen as a central figure in Thomas Frank’s plans.
Thomas Frank played a key role in bringing Mohammed Kudus to Tottenham
Tottenham’s appointment of Thomas Frank is proving to be a masterstroke. The Danish manager has steadily improved the team week by week, while also playing a pivotal role in attracting new signings to North London.
Kudus himself acknowledged just how influential Frank was in his decision to make the switch. Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Kudus said,
“I think the main factor in any club you want to join, is the project, how you see yourself developing in that project and with the manager. Looking at [Thomas Frank’s] work at Brentford with attackers, I can name so many, like Mbeumo, Toney, Damsgaard, his development of them was really massive.”
The prolific winger added,
“So I thought he would be the perfect guy to help me in my development, and how he wants his attackers to play, I think have the qualities to play like that, and that’s how I want to play. So yeah, it just fit perfectly in my head. It is the right step.”
Kudus emphasized that Tottenham’s ambitious project and the club’s upward trajectory convinced him that Spurs were the right destination. Just as importantly, he highlighted that Thomas Frank’s track record with attacking players and his tactical system made the decision a natural fit for his development.
While the Ghanaian has made a strong start to life at Tottenham, he will now be eager to break his scoring duck and establish himself as a consistent goal threat. With other forwards struggling for form in recent matches, Kudus will be under added pressure to deliver in front of goal and provide the cutting-edge Spurs need.
