Tottenham scouting 23-year-old Argentine sensation; Scouts from PL rivals also spotted

Tottenham Hotspur among Premier League clubs eyeing Parma striker Mateo Pellegrino

Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to bring in some top talents from across Europe. And in a bid to do so, they have begun to keep tabs on Parma striker Mateo Pellegrino.

The Argentine has been playing some brilliant football for his employers this season, given that he has already netted five goals in 8 games this season. This is much of an improvement on the three goals he scored in 13 outings in the last campaign.

Tottenham are looking at Mateo Pellegrino.

He netted a brace in Parma’s 2-1 win over Torino on Monday. And this is the clearest sign that he is adapting to the pace and technicality of Serie A. And it was a game where Tottenham had scouts present in the audience looking at him, according to TuttoSport (via ParmaLive). Scouts from Premier League rivals West Ham and Nottingham Forest are also reported to be in the stands.

The Spanish duo of Atlético Madrid and Villarreal are also said to be interested in the 23-year-old striker. Parma has already knocked back a €15m bid for his signature in July. Their stance is fixed on a €30m fee for his signatures.

It is not totally insensible for Parma to ask for those numbers. They have a 50% sell-on clause in the original deal that brought Pellegrino to Parma from Velez Sarsfield in the winter of 2025.

Do you think Frank should be looking to add Mateo Pellegrino to his roster?

If you’re looking at this from Tottenham’s perspective, it does make sense given how the club are looking to bring a sense of depth upfront. But that depth should be a qualitative player who is capable of featuring as a backup but also has a long-term upside. And that is where these links come through. Pellegrino is not the finished product yet.

Though the Argentine is versatile and has the capacity to play across the front line. Moreover, he has that aggression and link-up play which can become quite important under the structural way of Thomas Frank at N17. But there is more; he has those poaching movements in the box (which is still quite raw with high capability).

And he is twenty-three (23), which makes him fit the transfer policy of signing young players that we have seen Tottenham adapt in the past couple of years.

Do you think Tottenham should sign Mateo Pellegrino as a backup to Solanke and Richarlison? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
