Tottenham Hotspur told to look at Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson as Conor Gallagher alternative
Tottenham Hotspur focused on signing new attackers to bolster the forward line during the summer transfer window.
Spurs also managed to add some experience and steel to their midfield unit. In Joao Palhinha, they got a defensive midfielder on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich. The Portuguese has made an immediate impact in Thomas Frank’s side, adding a layer of security in front of the backline. However, the Europa League failed to address one of the pressing issues in the squad- a dynamic No.8.
As per reports from September, Thomas Frank’s priority is to still invest in a new central midfielder when the transfer window reopens in January. As such, the Dane’s club are continuing to assess the situation of Conor Gallagher at Atletico Madrid, having failed to land him in the past transfer window.
Tottenham told to look out for Conor Gallagher alternative
Conor Gallagher has been in and out of the Atletico Madrid side since the start of the new season. He has started just one La Liga game thus far, which would not have gone down well with the midfielder ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
And if that continues to be the case, the England international could seek an exit – although that is unlikely to happen before next summer. This is because Gallagher reportedly does not want to leave Atletico Madrid midway through the campaign as he is focused on establishing himself in Diego Simeone’s side.
As there is still hope that Yves Bissouma will leave N17 next year, reputable Spurs podcast owner John Wenham feels the north London outfit should go for Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson instead of Gallagher.
“I see why he was heavily linked when we had Postecoglou in charge, he would have been a really good fit for us,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.
“But times have moved on, and I’ve heard there are a lot of other midfielders that Tottenham would potentially look at, maybe someone like Elliot Anderson, who has a more ball-carrying style, you know, similar to Lucas Bergvall or Pape Matar Sarr, rather than Gallagher, for example.”
Elliot Anderson could be a cracking signing for Spurs
Elliot Anderson has excelled since arriving at Nottingham Forest after they took advantage of Newcastle United’s PSR situation in 2024. The Tricky Trees paid over £30m for the versatile midfielder, and he is now proving to be a bargain acquisition. The 22-year-old’s rise has been meteoric, recently earning a call-up to the England senior squad.
He made his England debut on 6 September in a 2–0 win against Andorra in a World Cup qualifier. Anderson’s consistent performances for Forest has seen him emerge as a target for Spurs ahead of the winter window.
Tenacious, industrious, tough-tackling and technically sound, the Englishman would be an instant upgrade over Bissouma at White Hart Lane. He’d add more intensity, energy and fight to Thomas Frank’s side whilst improving the depth of the squad. Anderson is also capable of operating in multiple midfield roles, making him an ideal fit for a manager like Frank.
Only 22, the ex-Newcastle United man has a lot to improve to fulfil his vast potential. The prospect of competing for trophies, including playing in the Champions League, could prove too alluring for Anderson to turn down if Spurs come calling next year. However, after the summer’s Morgan Gibbs-White saga, dealing with Forest would be extremely tricky next time around.
