Tottenham Hotspur stars Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons made a telling difference vs Leeds United
Tottenham Hotspur have had a few difficult weeks leading up to the final game of this club football interval as we go into the international hiatus. But the North Londoners closed out this time’s block on a high. Thomas Frank & Co. ended up grinding out a 2-1 win over Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday. This was a much-needed result for Spurs, as we see Tottenham firmly keeping themselves in place in the top-four picture early in the season.
It was the goals from Mathys Tel and Mohammed Kudus which helped Tottenham come back to Hotspur Way with three points. This was also the first time Mohammed Kudus got on the mark for his new employers, after coming close time and again. But Leeds pushed hard. We saw Noah Okafor restoring everything to parity with his goal before Daniel Farke’s side came close to a couple of goals themselves, but Tottenham held on. Graham Roberts full of praise for Lilywhites duo
Reflecting after the full-time whistle, Tottenham legend Graham Roberts was quick to speak about two names, Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons. He spoke about how the pair ended up shaping the outcome of the game. Roberts went on to praise their invention and intensity as he went on to describe their performances.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he wrote:
Very difficult after a midweek game to win at Leeds in them conditions. Really thought the back 4 very good again and kudos and Simons played really well. Well done lads. COYS

Let’s be honest, this is the type of game that Tottenham wouldn’t have found a way to win last season. Going away from home. Struggling with any sense of rhythm. And under massive pressure for most of the game. And yet Tottenham looked composed defensively (which is a big difference when you consider the faltering defensive line last season).
And then the duo of Simons and Kudus were always asking those questions every time the possession went into Leeds’ final third. And both of the aforementioned names have this unpredictability when they are on the ball. It is their flair and their tenacity, and we got to see both of those on display yesterday.
You can see why Tottenham spent such hefty figures on their signatures in the summer window. The quality is seen. And it will continue to be integral for the North Londoners under Thomas Frank going into the busy winter set of games after the international hiatus.
