Tottenham vs Leeds incident doesn’t sit right with former FIFA official; Spurs star’s actions deemed ‘unacceptable’

Tottenham Hotspur star Mohammed Kudus picked out for his ‘unacceptable’ behaviour vs Leeds United

Tottenham Hotspur walk into the international hiatus on a high, as the Lilywhites secured a 2-1 win over Leeds United at Elland Road this weekend.

Mohammed Kudus ended up stealing the headlines once again and so on for a couple of moments. One where he scored his brilliant first goal donning the Lilywhites badge. And another was his celebration, which has got many fans talking, and not for the right reasons.

The Ghanaian marquee summer signing at Hotspur Way showed his flair and confidence time and again as he was very integral to the Lilywhites’ win. Thomas Frank & Co. finally ended their drawing streak as they took three points against Daniel Farke’s team. It was goals from Kudus and Mathys Tel that took Tottenham all the way.

That first Kudus goal and the controversy that followed

Mohammed Kudus scored his first Tottenham goal.

His goal was more of a statement. Tottenham lacked that individual moment of brilliance when it came to tight games this season, but the former Hammers man showed his mettle. Kudus intercepted a loose pass in the right half-space. Then you could see him gliding in that right channel as he came across the edge of the area. He took a few touches to get the interceptors along the way before he drilled it into the bottom corner. Quality goal that.

But then after the goal he went on to a chair on the touchline to sit and celebrate. It’s a celebration that has become more customary during his time with West Ham. But there were a few Leeds supporters behind him. And they reacted disgracefully as they threw objects towards him in the middle of the celebration.

That is where former FIFA referee Keith Hackett spoke up. In an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, he spoke about the behaviour of the Leeds fans. He said via Tottenham Hotspur News:

“In the excitement of scoring a goal, a player has every right to celebrate.

“That player should celebrate within the confines of the playing area. The throwing of objects towards the field of play is completely unacceptable.”

TTLB Opinion

It was a much needed win for Frank & Co.

This goal showed a lot of everything that Tottenham supporters should be expecting from Kudus going forward. He drove through with the ball before sliding on the inside and then fired a shot across. We have seen that sort of pattern time and again from him at West Ham. And when moments are tight, that is what you expect from your star players.

And that reaction from a few fans at the back is unacceptable. But don’t let it overshadow what is a defining moment for Kudus for his new employers.
