Happy Tottenham star keen to ‘keep going’ after inspired outing vs Leeds United

Mathys Tel is keen to push on after his impressive performance for Tottenham Hotspur vs Leeds United

Tottenham Hotspur forward Mathys Tel found himself on the score sheet as he inspired the Lilywhites to a 2-1 win over Leeds United at Elland Road. It was one of the much-needed wins in the Premier League for the Lilywhites, given the bunch of draws they had on the back.

And the Frenchman has now opened up about the extra hours he’s been putting in at Hotspur Way. His comments show the whys behind how Thomas Frank and many Spurs faithful rate him very highly.

Stakes were high. Pressure was on. And Tel delivered. It was his early finish which ended up setting the tone for what was a hard-fought win for the North Londoners. But more importantly, it ended up giving Tottenham that sense of rhythm back before going into the international break.

Tel went on to admit that his goal against Leeds came from the extra hours that he spent working on his finishing at Hotspur Way. And this is exactly the kind of hunger that the players on the bench need to show if they are to get a run in at one of the starting places.

Speaking with TNT Sports after the game, Tel said:

“That was a tough game for us. The opponent played very well. We deserved to win because we fought until the end. I worked this week a lot on finishing. I am very happy for me.

“I hope I can help the team more and keep going. We are always together, work together and win together. I am very happy again about the win and what we showed. We just need to keep going.”

TTLB Opinion

These are the kind of things that will also please Thomas Frank. The Dane head coach has been one to consistently praise the attitude that the former Bayern Munich wide forward has been showing in training. And especially so given that he has had limited game time behind Richarlison.

We all know that Tel has a very high ceiling. He just lacks that confidence which made him take over the headlines before he secured a transfer to Bayern Munich. And it is this kind of attitude and grind which can end up setting him on the path of consistent goal-scoring headlines, something that many in the stands at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium feel he can do.

And if he does continue to grow at this rate, he might as well start pushing the likes of Richarlison and Dominic Solanke for a starting #9 role at Hotspur Way. For now, Tel has to turn this frustration into fuel and continue to put in the hours in the training ground. And he will soon start reaping rewards, just like he did at Leeds.
