Tottenham Hotspur are linked with a January transfer window move for Julian Brandt
Tottenham spent much of the summer transfer window pursuing a new attacking midfielder. The Lilywhites were left short of creativity in the middle of the park after James Maddison ruptured his ACL during a pre-season friendly in August. That unfortunate setback forced the North London club to urgently search for a suitable replacement before the window closed in September.
Daniel Levy came close to signing Eberechi Eze and Morgan Gibbs-White during the summer, with both players reportedly agreeing personal terms and preparing to join Thomas Frank’s squad at N17. However, both deals collapsed at the eleventh hour, during the final stages of the window.

Ultimately, Tottenham managed to bring in Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig on a long-term deal. The Dutchman is viewed as a long-term successor to Maddison in the No.10 role, despite a relatively slow start to life in North London. Nonetheless, Spurs have made it clear that they intend to strengthen their creative options further in January, having seen a noticeable drop in quality whenever Simons is not on the pitch.
Tottenham keeping tabs on Dortmund stalwart Julian Brandt
Recent reports suggest that Tottenham have identified Dortmund star Julian Brandt as a potential option for the #10 role at N17. The 29-year-old is facing an uncertain option at the Signal Iduna Park as he enters the final ten months of his contract. The report also states that the Bundesliga giants would be open to cash-in on the attacker in the winter to avoid losing him on a free next summer.
Now, Bryan King has urged Spurs to land Julian Brandt quickly before any complications arise on Dortmund’s end. Speaking to Tottenham News, King said,
“Frank will obviously know about Brandt because in the last five or six years, he’s been spoken about coming to the Premier League on several occasions. He’s a very interesting player, and he would certainly be a great benefit to Tottenham.”
The ex-scout added,
“If they could get him on a free transfer, how much better could they get? They’d get four years out of him, at least until he turns 33, because he hasn’t had too many injury problems and seems to keep himself in good shape.”
Bryan King believes Julian Brandt would be an excellent addition for Tottenham, particularly if he becomes available on a free transfer. The former scout also highlighted that Brandt’s strong fitness record would allow Spurs to get several productive seasons out of him.
However, Tottenham must avoid delaying negotiations for the midfielder’s signature. It is also possible that Brandt is leveraging Spurs’ interest to secure a new contract with Dortmund. Therefore, the Lilywhites should act decisively and present a concrete offer to the German club, putting the ball firmly in Dortmund’s court.
