Tottenham backed to ‘disrupt’ the Premier League elite; Daniel Levy decision adds ‘stability’

Ben Foster feels Thomas Frank’s Tottenham Hotspur will be a problem for all the “big boys” this season

Tottenham Hotspur have had a fantastic start to the 2025-26 campaign. Sitting third in the Premier League, there is a real hope that the Lilywhites can challenge for the top four spots and have a campaign to remember.

Spurs were going through a first rough patch under new boss Thomas Frank following three consecutive draws in all competitions. They managed to get back to winning ways last weekend with a 2-1 win over Leeds United. Mathys Tel and Mohammed Kudus’ goals helped Tottenham claim all three points at Elland Road, marking Leeds United’s first defeat at home since September of last year.

Thomas Frank made his squad aware of their woeful record in games leading into international breaks, but that curse ultimately was lifted in West Yorkshire. The 51-year-old made it clear at the start of the season that he wanted Tottenham to strongly compete on all four fronts. The Danish tactician is keen to build on last season’s Europa League, while also aiming to deliver a top-four finish in the Premier League.

Ex-England goalkeeper thinks Thomas Frank has given Tottenham stability

Many fans questioned Tottenham’s decision to hire Frank as head coach following Ange Postecoglou’s sacking in June, despite guiding the club to Europa League. Yet, in hindsight, ex-chairman Daniel Levy appears to have made the right call.

Considering how disastrous last season was in the Premier League, the north Londoners have taken some huge strides under Frank. Tottenham have actually surprised many with their brand of football and tactics, with the Danish gaffer managing to steady the ship quickly.

Former England goalkeeper Ben Foster has now praised Frank’s impact at White Hart Lane after witnessing Tottenham’s impressive early form. He thinks Spurs of last season would not have gone to Elland Road and won under difficult circumstances, whilst adding that Frank’s side will be a “problem” for all the big boys this season.

“In that the whole all take everything into account. I think Spurs would not have got a win there. And this is the difference now, isn’t it? A bit more steady, stable character,” Ben Foster said on the Football Fill In Podcast.

“They’ll disrupt a lot of teams this season as well. They’ll be a problem for all the big boys. The Arsenals the Arsenal game will be a tough one.”

Big tests still to come for Spurs

Tottenham fans will be on top of the world if Frank can help the team shake the ‘Spursy’ tag. The mentality is changing under the 51-year-old’s guidance, but there is still a long way to go. Tougher assignments than the Leeds game are set to come in the weeks and months ahead.

Difficult games against Aston Villa, AS Monaco, Newcastle United and Chelsea are about to come after the October international break. These games will show how far Frank’s side have come. Overall, though, they have made progress and it reflects on their performances and current standing in the Premier League table.
