‘Banished’ Tottenham Hotspur star has ‘lots to do’ to regain Thomas Frank’s trust

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma is back training with the first-team squad again

Tottenham outcast Yves Bissouma is once again in the spotlight as he looks to revive his career and return to the pitch this season. The Mali international has experienced a turbulent spell at N17 since his high-profile move from Brighton & Hove Albion. His time in North London has been anything but smooth. It is fair to say that Bissouma’s stint at Hotspur Way has fallen far short of expectations.

The midfielder was banished from the first-team squad just before the new season began, reportedly for arriving late to multiple team meetings during pre-season. Manager Thomas Frank, known for his strict emphasis on discipline and professionalism, was said to be frustrated with Bissouma’s repeated lapses in attitude and punctuality — issues that quickly became a distraction for the rest of the squad.

Yves Bissouma is hoping to revive his Tottenham career under Thomas Frank.

As a result, the Malian has not featured for the Lilywhites in any competition this season. During the summer, Bissouma was strongly linked with a move to Fenerbahçe, with many expecting him to leave Hotspur Way after falling out of favour. However, the deal collapsed at the last minute after the midfielder picked up an injury during training, leaving his future in limbo.

Yves Bissouma still might have time to rejuvenate his Tottenham career

Recent reports suggest that Yves Bissouma still has a chance of getting reintegrated into the Tottenham squad this season. Thomas Frank wants the prolific midfielder to keep his head down in training and prove that he is ready to make an impact for the Lilywhites on a consistent basis. This might just be what the Malian needs to rejuvenate his career at N17 and get it back on track before the season ends.

However, Martin Allen believes that Bissouma still has a lot to do before he can start thinking about getting selected for matchday squad under Thomas Frank. Speaking to Tottenham News, Allen said,

“He’s got a lot to prove. He is a good player, so we will see. Let’s hope his discipline can improve and his timekeeping for sure. I always felt that if you’re late off the pitch and you can’t be bothered to make meetings and get in on time for training, then you’re going to be late on the pitch.”

The ex-Leicester City manager added,

“And if you’re late on the pitch, it’s going to cost your team, it’s going to cost you goals, cost you points, and nobody wants that in their football club. So, he’s got a lot to do.”

Martin Allen is right to suggest that Yves Bissouma still needs to prove that he has learnt his lesson after a prolonged period of absence under Thomas Frank. The Mali international needs to train hard, show that he is ready to make a difference, and give his all for the North London club. Only then, he will be able to feature under Frank before the season ends next year.

His absence has already hurt Spurs in several ways. The Malian could have provided ideal cover for Joao Palhinha in the No. 6 role — a position that demands both discipline and defensive awareness. But his off-field issues have repeatedly stood in the way of him fulfilling his potential and becoming one of Tottenham’s standout performers.
