Spurs will not recall Luka Vuskovic in January
Tottenham’s 18-year-old Croatian centre-back Luka Vuskovic, is turning heads in Germany’s second division with Hamburger SV. Signed from Hajduk Split in 2023 w.e.f his 18th birthday, basically this year, he’s on a full-season loan to build experience. Discussions of a potential January recall have surfaced, prompted by Tottenham’s ongoing defensive injuries. However, recent assurances indicate that such a move remains unlikely.
Measuring 6 feet 3 inches, Vuskovic offers a commanding aerial presence and composed ball-playing ability, qualities that align well with Tottenham’s defensive ideals. He has quickly become integral to Hamburger SV’s lineup, contributing to their promotion campaign. In a match against Union Berlin, he won 18 aerial duels in a team that’s not very gifted vertically.
Supporters in Hamburg have embraced his reliable performances, while scouts from Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig also show a lot of interest in the player, as per GOAL.

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank contends with several defensive absences this season. The loan agreement includes a conditional recall clause for exceptional circumstances. Nevertheless, Hamburger SV’s sporting director, Claus Costa, has addressed the speculation directly and extinguished the chances of a potential recall. Here is what he told Transfermarkt.
“We had very constructive discussions with Tottenham; they’re a top-professional club, judging by the communication with loan manager Andy Scoulding. They’re closely monitoring the player, which shows how they assess Luka. Tottenham isn’t interested in weakening us or ruining the loan.”
“It’s understandable that they’re trying to protect themselves against possible worst-case scenarios. Otherwise, I don’t want to comment further. I believe Tottenham also knows how good the situation here is for Luka. That’s why I hope we never get into a situation where we have to think about anything else.”
Vuskovic’s brother, Mario, also features for Hamburger SV, which has facilitated his adaptation. Croatia’s national team manager, Zlatko Dalic, has reinstated him in the senior squad, describing him as a promising talent with significant potential.
Although interest from other Bundesliga clubs persists, Vuskovic’s extended contract with Tottenham until 2030 (Transfermarkt) secures his future. He’ll be 23 when his current deal expires. MAD.

As the January window approaches, the focus remains on his continued progress in the challenging setting of Volksparkstadion. Upon his return to North London next summer, Vuskovic is poised to contribute meaningfully. This measured pathway demonstrates Tottenham’s dedication to nurturing homegrown excellence. Come on you Spurs.
