Tottenham Hotspur CEO Vinai Venkatesham has made handing Micky van de Ven a new contract one of his main priorities
Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven has made an impressive start under Thomas Frank this season.
The Netherlands international, who arrived from Wolfsburg in the summer of 2023, has not managed to be a regular starter due to injury problems. He spent a significant chunk of last season on the sidelines owing to thigh and hamstring issues, which affected the 24-year-old’s performance levels.
Micky van de Ven has been showing signs of regaining his form since the start of the season. In Van de Ven and Cristian Romero, the Lilywhites arguably boasts one of the strongest defensive pairings in the Premier League. TalkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara has dubbed Tottenham’s duo the best in the world, with Van de Ven and Romero’s leadership skills, awareness, reading of the game and technical ability giving Thomas Frank’s side a strong foundation to build upon.
While Spurs have secured Romero’s future by giving him a new contract in August, it looks like the club are now keen to tie his partner down to fresh terms.

Vinai Venkatesham makes Van de Ven contract a priority
According to an exclusive report from TBR Football, Tottenham CEO Vinai Venkatesham has made Van de Ven’s new contract one of his top priorities. He is keen to tie him down to a lucrative deal, given his status as one of the best central defenders in Europe.
The Dutchman still has three years left on his current deal, but the north Londoners want to reward him to reflect his status in the Premier League. Currently, earning around £50,000 a week, the 24-year-old would double his wages if he pens a new deal.
As per TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey, Tottenham want to sort out Van de Ven’s new deal before the New Year to end speculation surrounding his future. Real Madrid have shown an interest in signing the Spurs defender, while he is also courted by Bayern Munich and Chelsea.
“I am told it is very much one of Vinai Venkatesham’s priorities to get him tied down before the New Year; they don’t want Van de Ven’s name to become part of the centre back talk that is already happening,” Graeme Bailey told TBR Football.
“Spurs know he is under contract until 2028, so in theory he can’t move, but they want to keep him happy, and Spurs know he is as good as anything in England or indeed Europe at the moment.”

Van de Ven key to Frank’s plans at Tottenham
Van de Ven captained Spurs in Romero’s absence in the 2-2 draw with Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League earlier this month. Just to show how vital and highly rated he is, Frank included the central defender in his five-man leadership group.
The Dutch talent brings a sense of security and calmness to the Lilywhites’ defence when on the pitch. Plus, given his high potential, no wonder the Europa League champions have no intention of losing Van de Ven and are ready to offer him a new contract before he starts considering other options.
As Real Madrid are circling, Venkatesham must quickly sort out the Wormer native’s future at White Hart Lane. Van de Ven is an extremely vital figure to Frank’s plans at Tottenham and we simply cannot afford to lose him.
