“It’s a shame”- Inconsistent Tottenham striker deemed a ‘massive miss’

Can Brazilian star Richarlison turn his fortunes around at Tottenham Hotspur

Some Tottenham Hotspur fans are still surprised to see Richarlison wearing the Lilywhite jersey at N17 this season. At one point during the summer transfer window, it seemed almost certain that the Brazil international would be heading for the exit after failing to make an impact under Ange Postecoglou last term. However, Thomas Frank decided to keep faith in the forward, handing the 28-year-old one final opportunity to prove his worth in North London.

To his credit, Richarlison made a strong start to the new campaign under Frank. His brace against Burnley on the opening day reignited belief among the fans that the Brazilian might finally repay the manager’s trust. But since then, his form has dipped again, with only one goal in his last nine appearances for the Lilywhites.

Tottenham forward Richarlison is struggling to make consistent impact under Thomas Frank.

The Spurs faithful have, unfortunately, grown accustomed to seeing this pattern. Richarlison tends to fade after short bursts of promise, failing to sustain his momentum over a longer period. That inconsistency has tested the patience of supporters, and it wouldn’t come as a major surprise if Tottenham decide to offload him in the upcoming transfer window.

Jamie O’Hara disappointed with Richarlison’s lack of impact at Tottenham

When Richarlison made his switch from Everton to Tottenham in 2022, few questioned the decision. The forward had been one of the Premier League’s standout performers, offering dynamism, work rate, and goals under Carlo Ancelotti. However, his time at Hotspur Way has been far less inspiring. The Brazilian has looked a shadow of the player who once carried Everton’s attack, struggling to recapture the same spark in North London.

Now, Jamie O’Hara has weighed in on the 28-year-old’s struggles, deeming the transfer as a ‘massive miss.’ Speaking on talkSPORT (via Everton News), O’Hara said,

“I think everyone believed that he was a good signing. He did a brilliant job at Everton. Kept them in the Premier League. He was a one-man band, but he’s not produced. Injuries haven’t helped.”

The pundit added,

“But when he’s been fit, look, he started the season okay this season, he’s done alright, and I think he’s probably starting. I would have to say for what we spent for 60 million pounds; it’s a massive miss. It’s a shame because he’s got some talent.”

O’Hara’s comments reflect the general sentiment among supporters. Few questioned Tottenham’s decision to sign Richarlison given his exploits at Everton, but injuries, inconsistency, and a lack of confidence have all contributed to his underwhelming stint at the club. For a £60m signing, the return has been disappointing so far.

Still, not all hope is lost for the 28-year-old. With Dominic Solanke currently side-line with an ankle injury, Richarlison now has another chance to lead the line for Spurs. This spell could prove decisive for his future at the club. Frank will be hoping that the Brazilian can rediscover his best form and play with freedom once again. The striker has always been a confidence-based player, thriving when he feels trusted and backed by his manager. If the Dane can help him regain that self-belief, there is still a chance for the forward to turn things around at N17.
