Joao Palhinha has become a mainstay in the Tottenham team under Thomas Frank this season
Tottenham managed to salvage their summer transfer window by securing several top-quality signings for Thomas Frank. The Lilywhites brought in the likes of Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons, and Randal Kolo Muani to strengthen their squad and build on last season’s Europa League triumph. It’s fair to say that most of these new arrivals have hit the ground running under the Danish tactician.
However, one player who has stood out above the rest for Spurs this season is Joao Palhinha. The Portuguese international has injected much-needed experience and leadership into Tottenham’s midfield. The 30-year-old has already made the No.6 role his own at N17, anchoring the midfield with composure while providing vital protection to the backline.

To everyone’s surprise, Palhinha has also added a new dimension to his game under Frank. Known primarily for his defensive solidity, he has begun making a real impact in the final third as well—finding himself in good positions and scoring crucial goals. His strikes against Wolves and Manchester City have already earned Spurs four vital Premier League points, further cementing their position near the top of the table.
Joao Palhinha is already proving his worth at Tottenham
Not many expected Palhinha to adapt so seamlessly after joining Tottenham in the summer. Yet, like a duck to water, the Portuguese midfielder has perfectly adjusted to Frank’s system and the demands of the Premier League. His influence at both ends of the pitch has quickly made him a fan favourite at N17.
Jamie O’Hara has now heaped praise on the 30-year-old, making a bold claim about his impact at the North London club. Speaking on talkSPORT (via X), O’Hara said,
“Palhinha has been one of the best players in the Premier League this season. He’s been unbelievable. Look at all the stats. He’s up there. He walks into most teams in the Premier League right now.”
O’Hara believes Palhinha would walk into almost any team in England at the moment, given his incredible start to life at Tottenham. While that may sound exaggerated, it’s hard to disagree when looking at his performances. There are few players in the league who do what he does — and even fewer who do it better.
Palhinha’s consistency and performance levels have not dipped at all this season. Recognizing his importance, reports suggest Spurs are already exploring the option of turning his loan deal from Bayern Munich into a permanent move. The North London club are reportedly ready to meet the German side’s asking price to keep him beyond the summer. The 30-year-old himself is also keen to extend his stay, having become an integral part of Thomas Frank’s side and enjoying regular game time.
With seven matches to be played in the next 22 days, Tottenham fans will hope Palhinha continues his excellent form and avoids complacency. His presence and leadership in midfield could prove crucial in maintaining Spurs’ momentum as they aim to challenge on multiple fronts this season.
