Bayern Munich eyeing Tottenham Hotspur target Pablo Barrios
Tottenham Hotspur’s need to bring in new players in the middle of the park is widely known. And this took the recruitment team at N17 to places. One of them was Spain, where the Lilywhites tried to pursue a high-profile move to bring Atletico Madrid midfielder Pablo Barrios to Hotspur Way earlier this year.
But that transfer didn’t come off.
And now Bayern Munich are reportedly preparing a major bid to sign the 22-year-old Spanish maestro. Since breaking into Diego Simeone’s first team in early 2023, Barrios has become a key figure in the middle of the park at Wanda Metropolitano and is now attracting serious attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
According to Fichajes, Bayern Munich are ready to table an offer in the region of €70 million as they look to secure Barrios’ signature. The Bundesliga giants are said to be planning for the long term with Kompany at the helm, and they are looking at Barrios as a priority signing who has the capacity to slot straight into the middle of the park for the German giants.
Barrios is seen as Goretzka’s successor at Bayern

The German giants have been looking at Barrios as someone who has the capacity to take over the midfield role of Leon Goretzka. He has been linked with a possible Bayern exit given that he is out of contract when the next summer transfer window comes around. And while there is a possibility that Goretzka could yet end up signing an extension, Bayern are already planning to upgrade on him with a younger player. And Barrios is at the top of that list.
The Spanish international has that energy and technique which makes him an ideal fit to play in a Kompany midfield. And he is not just a stopgap signing, given his age; if you sign Barrios, you have someone who has the capacity to be an integral part of that midfield for the majority of the next decade.
Atletico Madrid will be reluctant to sell given the high potential that Barrios possesses. And while he does have a release clause of around €100 million, Bayern hope €70 million will be enough to tempt the Spaniards; it remains to be seen whether the Spanish giants will budge from their valuation.
What does this mean for Tottenham?

The North Londoners have had interest in Barrios’ signatures before. And it shows how the midfield needs reinforcements, but now with Bayern interested, the chiefs at N17 must decide whether they want him, and if so, then. Tottenham must press for Barrios’ signature in 2026. Or they can also pivot to another midfielder if they feel Barrios comes too hefty.
