Tottenham Hotspur can beat Juventus to Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hjulmand if they can fork out the cash
Tottenham have several areas to address despite enjoying a steady start to the 2025/26 season under Thomas Frank.
The north London club currently sits sixth in the Premier League following the 2-1 home defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday, just a point behind the top four spots. However, there is still a long road ahead before Spurs can genuinely challenge their rivals on all fronts. To make that vision a reality, significant investment in high-quality talents with potential will be essential.
The defeat to Aston Villa not only highlighted Tottenham’s problems in scoring goals, but also exposed some deficiencies in midfield. Spurs were at times way too open in midfield and the two long-range goals they conceded came from lack of proactive defending. The players were slow to cover the ground and block the likes of Morgan Rogers and Emi Buendia to take the shots from outside the box, which became goals.

Tottenham get boost in the pursuit of Sporting CP midfielder
It was recently announced that the Lewis family have invested £100 million into the club, with the funds allotted to strengthening Thomas Frank’s squad.
Thomas Frank is seemingly not satisfied with his current options in the middle of the park. Several midfield talents have been linked with a move to Tottenham in recent weeks. Rangers talent Nico Raskin has been added to the midfield shortlist. The Europa League winners have also shown an interest in recruiting Morten Hjulmand.
After arriving from Lecce in the summer of 2023, Morten Hjulmand has gone from strength to strength at Sporting CP. The Dane is one of the most important players for Sporting CP due to not just what he brings on and off the ball, but also for his leadership qualities. So, it is not surprising that he is also wanted by several top European clubs.
Juventus are among several clubs keen on signing Hjulmand. However, there is an obstacle the Serie A side are facing. According to reliable journalist Ekrem Konur on X, Juventus won’t go all in with €60-70 million to sign the Sporting captain as their priority next year is signing a striker. Spurs, Arsenal and Manchester United are circling, ready to make advances if Juventus hesitate.
Tottenham must go for Hjulmand
As Konur says Juventus could shelve their midfield plans in January for a new striker, Spurs and other interested parties will be in advantage in the race to sign Hjulmand. Tottenham, in particular, will be boosted with the journalist’s update, as they are planning to launch a €60 million offer for the Dane in the winter window.
It will depend on whether Sporting would want to sell their skipper midway through the season, but Spurs must at least test their resolve. Signing a player of Hjulmand’s defensive skills, reading of the game and experience would add much-needed nous and solidity to Frank’s midfield unit. He’d be a solid option to compete and cover for Joao Palhinha during the second half of the season.
