Tottenham Hotspur backed to hold Everton to a 2-2 draw at Goodison Park
Tottenham, rather unconvincingly, secured a 0-0 draw in their latest Champions League match against AS Monaco on Wednesday night. The Lilywhites were nowhere near the required levels to clinch a win against the Ligue 1 outfit, and the players looked leggy and tired for most parts of the game. The draw was not even a fair reflection on the performance, as the North London club clearly deserved to return to N17 empty-handed.
Following last weekend’s defeat to Aston Villa, fans had hoped Spurs would deliver a strong response in Europe. However, what followed in Monaco was anything but encouraging. The pragmatic approach adopted by Thomas Frank exposed clear deficiencies in attack and forced Tottenham onto the back foot for much of the contest.
Even so, the Lilywhites have lost only two matches in all competitions this season, which remains a positive sign. But for now, Thomas Frank must focus on addressing the negatives and finding solutions before their next test. Their upcoming fixture against Everton will be another tough challenge, with the Toffees proving difficult to beat at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Still, it presents an opportunity for Spurs to regain momentum and bounce back in style.
Tottenham and Everton backed to provide a Premier League classic in Merseyside
Despite the current frustrations around N17, Tottenham remain just one point behind the Premier League’s top four. The Lilywhites are in a strong position to close the gap on league leaders Arsenal and solidify their place in the upper half of the table. However, their visit to Everton could easily become a stumbling block if Thomas Frank’s men fail to perform from the very first whistle.
Former Tottenham striker Peter Crouch believes the upcoming clash could produce plenty of goals. Speaking on That Peter Crouch podcast, he said,
“Okay, I’m going to go for Everton 2, Tottenham 2. I think Everton look good at home. I think they look good at home and they’re decent. I think Spurs, yeah, they need to bounce back. They’ve actually been better away from home than they have at home. But I think there’ll be goals. I think 2-2 for me.”
Crouch backed his prediction by pointing out Everton’s strong home form and Tottenham’s recent struggles at N17. The 44-year-old also noted that the Lilywhites have looked more comfortable on the road this season and will be eager to respond after a run of underwhelming performances, both in the Premier League and in Europe.
However, a 2-2 draw would do little to help Thomas Frank’s side close the gap on their rivals. Tottenham need to find a way to secure all three points if they hope to keep pace with Arsenal. With Everton unbeaten at home in the Premier League this season, it will require a strong performance from the Lilywhites to break that record and end the week on a positive note.
