Tottenham endured one of their worst-ever Premier League campaigns last season, finishing just one place above the relegation zone. Their defensive instability in crucial moments was one of the main reasons Ange Postecoglou was dismissed despite having delivered the Europa League trophy.
This season, however, Tottenham look like a completely different side under Thomas Frank. Recent reports suggest Spurs are interested in landing Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi in the coming months. The Lilywhites view the England international as the ideal player to bolster the backline under Thomas Frank. With his contract expiring next summer, the North London club view him as a low-risk, high-impact signing.
However, signing the 25-year-old may not be as easy as it sounds for the North Londoners. As per Florian Plettenburg (via X), Bayern Munich have now entered the race for Guehi’s signature. The Bundesliga giants have met with the defender’s agent Gordon Stipic, and they are willing to pull out all stops to lure him to the Allianz Arena come next summer.
Given the level of competition, it appears increasingly unlikely that Spurs will be able to sign Guehi in the coming months. The England international is eager to win major trophies and make a name for himself on the world stage. And these ambitions make a move to a club like Bayern Munich or Liverpool far more appealing at this stage of his career.
While Tottenham are undoubtedly improving under Thomas Frank, they remain a work in progress for now.
