Bayern Munich touch base with Tottenham target’s agent; Euro giants keen to seal the deal

Date:

Bayern Munich are seeking to steal a march on landing Tottenham Hotspur target Marc Guehi

Tottenham endured one of their worst-ever Premier League campaigns last season, finishing just one place above the relegation zone. The Lilywhites suffered 22 defeats and managed to keep only five clean sheets in the league. Their defensive instability in crucial moments was one of the main reasons Ange Postecoglou was dismissed despite having delivered the Europa League trophy.

This season, however, Tottenham look like a completely different side under Thomas Frank. The Danish tactician has implemented a clear structure and identity, with every player understanding his role on the pitch. The Lilywhites have been defensively resolute, already registering six clean sheets across all competitions. They appear far more organised, and Frank’s compact system is bringing the best out of his defensive unit.

Tottenham likely to miss out on Marc Guehi next summer.

At the heart of their success has been the formidable partnership between Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero. Both players have been in outstanding form this season, showing remarkable composure and consistency in the opening months of the campaign. However, the lack of depth in central defence becomes apparent whenever one of them is rested, exposing a significant drop in quality at the back.

Tottenham eyeing a deal to land Marc Guehi amid intense competition

Tottenham need to be proactive in January and bring in some quality players if they are to compete on all fronts this season. The Lilywhites are aiming to prioritise strengthening their backline as they look to add more depth and quality at the back. Signing a new centre-back would provide good competition to Romero and Van de Ven, and also give Thomas Frank some much-needed tactical flexibility going forward.

Recent reports suggest Spurs are interested in landing Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi in the coming months. The Lilywhites view the England international as the ideal player to bolster the backline under Thomas Frank. With his contract expiring next summer, the North London club view him as a low-risk, high-impact signing.

However, signing the 25-year-old may not be as easy as it sounds for the North Londoners. As per Florian Plettenburg (via X), Bayern Munich have now entered the race for Guehi’s signature. The Bundesliga giants have met with the defender’s agent Gordon Stipic, and they are willing to pull out all stops to lure him to the Allianz Arena come next summer.

Given the level of competition, it appears increasingly unlikely that Spurs will be able to sign Guehi in the coming months. The England international is eager to win major trophies and make a name for himself on the world stage. And these ambitions make a move to a club like Bayern Munich or Liverpool far more appealing at this stage of his career.

While Tottenham are undoubtedly improving under Thomas Frank, they remain a work in progress for now. The North London club still has a long way to go before they can consistently compete with Europe’s elite and challenge for top honours. So, will the Lilywhites look for other alternatives to improve their backline? Only time will tell.
