Lucas Bergvall has all the attributes to become a leading figure at Tottenham in the coming years

Several Tottenham players quickly adapted to Thomas Frank’s system when the Danish tactician took charge at N17 in the summer. And one of the standout names among them was Lucas Bergvall. The talented midfielder impressed Frank during the pre-season tour, making an instant impact in the middle of the park for the Lilywhites in every match before the new campaign began.

The 19-year-old was swiftly integrated into the starting eleven for the opening games of the season by the former Brentford boss. And it’s fair to say that Bergvall emerged as one of Tottenham’s brightest performers early on, playing a crucial role in their strong start to the campaign. In many ways, James Maddison’s unfortunate ACL injury fast-tracked the young Swede’s rise under Frank.

Lucas Bergvall will come in good at Tottenham under Thomas Frank.

Initially deployed as an attacking midfielder, Bergvall wasted no time in making his mark in the final third. He recorded a goal and an assist against West Ham and played a key role in Tottenham’s Champions League victory over Villarreal. At one stage, his impressive form even kept Xavi Simons out of the starting line-up at N17.

Lucas Bergvall needs to remain patient at Tottenham

Despite a brilliant start to the season, Lucas Bergvall seems to have lost his place in the starting eleven under Thomas Frank as of now. The Sweden international has only started one of Spurs’ last three games, with Frank giving him the nod against AS Monaco in the Champions League. However, the 19-year-old was substituted at the hour mark after a disastrous display in Monte-Carlo, further putting his place in the team under serious doubt.

Now, Bryan King has urged Bergvall to look at the big picture and prove his worth once again. Speaking to Tottenham News, King said,

“It’s always difficult if you’re not in the team. This is what happens to young players, and he (Bergvall) will feel aggrieved by it all. It’s just a learning curve for him. When you look at Tottenham, they are overloaded with midfield players, so somebody is going to have to miss out.”

The ex-Spurs scout added,

“He’s not yet a star, he’s done very well, and he’s surprised a lot of people. He might feel aggrieved, but he’s still a big part of the first-team squad.”

King believes being out of the starting line-up will serve as an important learning experience for Bergvall. Given Tottenham’s depth in midfield, rotation was inevitable, and missing out on games is simply part of the process for a young player still developing his game. Nevertheless, King insists that Bergvall remains an integral part of the first-team setup and that it’s only a matter of time before he regains his place under Frank.

Fans will hope that the talented midfielder keeps his head down and continues to improve as the season progresses. Bergvall has immense talent, there are no two ways about it. But it is up to him to refine his skills and realise that potential in the years ahead. Working under Frank could prove pivotal to his growth, as the Danish tactician has a proven track record of nurturing young talent and helping them fulfil their promise.
