Tottenham ready to offer Juventus flop a 2026 escape route

Jonathan David is struggling to make a name for himself in the Serie A this season as Tottenham Hotspur circle

Tottenham prioritised bringing in attacking reinforcements in the summer after last season’s Europa League success. The Lilywhites signed the likes of Randal Kolo Muani, Mathys Tel, Xavi Simons, and Mohammed Kudus to bolster the attacking line and give Thomas Frank the best chance to compete on all fronts this season. Signing top-quality, household names was surely seen as a statement of intent by the North London club.

However, they failed to address one glaring issue in the squad that is currently haunting Thomas Frank the most. The lack of a prolific centre-forward in the squad is creating a lot of problems for the Danish tactician as he looks to maintain his positive start to the campaign. Spurs need goals, and plenty of them. And as of now, their strikers are not proving to be of any help in the final third of the pitch.

Remarkably, Micky van de Ven, a central defender, is Tottenham’s top scorer in all competitions this season. While that is an impressive personal achievement for the Dutchman, it also serves as a stark reminder to the club’s hierarchy that they must prioritise signing a new striker in the upcoming January transfer window. The £100m investment from the Lewis family could prove pivotal as Spurs look to close the gap on their title rivals.

Tottenham re-emerge as likely destination for Juventus striker Jonathan David

Tottenham were keen on signing a new striker in the summer to keep Dominic Solanke on his toes for the ongoing campaign. For that reason, the Lilywhites had identified ex-Lille striker Jonathan David as a potential option following the expiration of his contract with the Ligue 1 outfit. However, the deal fell through for one reason or another, and the Canadian opted to sign for Juventus as a free agent on a long-term deal instead.

But it has not quite worked for the 25-year-old in Turin this season. Under Igor Tudor, David has failed to make an impact in the final third of the pitch, finding the back of the net just once in ten matches. He has fallen down the pecking order at the club, with Dusan Vlahovic taking his place in the starting eleven instead.

Now, Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness) reports that there is growing belief in the Juventus camp that Jonathan David does not have what it takes to carry the Bianconeri attack. The Seria A giants are running out of patience with him, and are opting to sell him in January. Taking notice of that, the report also states that Tottenham are interested in landing the prolific striker in the winter as they aim to bolster their attack for the second half of the season.

Signing David would certainly help elevate Spurs’ attack under Thomas Frank. The Canadian scored more than 100 goals during his time for Lille, showing efficiency in front of goal. And despite his slow start to life in Turin, there is no doubt that the prolific striker possesses immense talent to lead the line for a Premier League club. He would also keep Solanke on his toes, whilst being an upgrade on Richarlison.

So, should Spurs test the waters for David’s signature? Or should they go for a Premier League proven player instead? Let us know in the comments below.
