In hindsight, that decision may have not worked out well for the 24-year-old, as he has yet to establish himself in Madrid’s starting eleven this season. And now, Graeme Bailey believes the world-class winger is keen to move to pastures new in the coming months to keep his World Cup dreams alive. Writing for TBR Football’s transfer column, Bailey said,
“With a World Cup year ahead, Rodrygo could be tempted by a move. Arsenal are still keeping tabs, and Tottenham like Rodrygo too. Don’t be surprised if the Brazilian winger to England becomes a serious story come January.”
Bailey suggests Rodrygo may be tempted to move away from Real Madrid in the winter if his situation under Xabi Alonso does not improve. The journalist also claims that Tottenham are prepared to make a move for the winger as they look to strengthen their attacking options. However, the Lilywhites will likely face stiff competition from Arsenal, who are also considering Rodrygo as an upgrade on Gabriel Martinelli.
Signing a player of Rodrygo’s calibre should be a no-brainer for the Lilywhites. The Real Madrid star possesses the talent and potential to become one of the best wingers in world football, and he would likely thrive in the Premier League under Thomas Frank’s management. He would also slot directly into the starting eleven at N17, replacing Wilson Odobert on the left-flank.
That said, it remains to be seen whether the North London club could afford the 24-year-old in the winter. With the World Cup on the horizon, a January move does not seem unlikely for the prolific winger. However, he may need to force his way out of Real Madrid if Spurs want to have any chances of signing him in the coming months.
