Thomas Frank handed triple injury boost as Tottenham prepare to face Chelsea

Date:

Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie and Wilson Odobert are all available for Tottenham to face Chelsea on Saturday

Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea face off under the lights on Saturday in what will be a mouthwatering London derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

In a fixture that always lives up to the billing, Spurs welcome the Pensioners looking to end a miserable run against their London adversaries, which consists of just one league win in 13 meetings. They will be aiming to bounce back, especially after getting dumped out of the Carabao Cup at the hands of the holders Newcastle United in midweek.

Thomas Frank has been extremely unfortunate with the injury situation at N17. He has double-digit injury absentees at the moment, which does not bode well for a team heading into a game of such magnitude. Archie Gray was the latest casualty, entering the infirmary after sustaining a calf problem in the 0-0 draw with AS Monaco in the Champions League last week.

Thomas Frank gets triple injury boost ahead of Chelsea visit

Tottenham will be eager to compound Enzo Maresca’s frustrations at the weekend and climb further up the table. The mounting injury list of late has been extremely concerning for the fans and Thomas Frank. But the fans have now been given positive injury updates on three players by the gaffer.

Addressing the media ahead of the game, Frank was asked to provide an update on the condition of his Spurs squad. Our gaffer stated in his presser (h/t Football London):

“The positive news is that [Cristian] Romero, Destiny [Udogie] and Wilson [Odobert] are available for selection for Saturday.”

Massive defensive boost for Tottenham

Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie have missed the recent games with respective issues, and we’ve witnessed how shaky Tottenham have looked defensively without the duo. Romero is the captain of the side, always leading from the front with his aggressive, front-footed defending. Having the Argentinean back fit is massive, especially for such a big fixture against Chelsea, where a timely tackle or interception lifts the home crowd.

Kevin Danso has deputised well in the last few games, but Romero partnering Micky van de Ven in central defence gives Tottenham a different kind of solidity. As for Udogie, he’s had another stop-start campaign due to injury problems. The Italian’s availability is great news but it will be interesting to see whether he’s fully fit to start against Chelsea. If not, Djed Spence will start at left-back.

Having two starters back fit from injury immediately lifts the mood and morale around the dressing room and within the fanbase. Hopefully, both Romero and Udogie are fit to start on Saturday.
