David Ornstein confirms Tottenham Hotspur interest in Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite
Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of winning the Carabao Cup were over in midweek after they were beaten 2-0 by holders Newcastle United. The Magpies beat Thomas Frank and Co. 2-0 at St James’ Park, via goals from Fabian Schar and Nick Woltemade.
The north Londoners have been hamstrung by injuries of late. Several key players have missed the recent games, and while the Lilywhites have been handed a triple injury boost ahead of the Chelsea fixture, so many injuries at this critical juncture is always difficult to take for the head coach.
The defensive unit has been severely hit, with Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie and Ben Davies missing games after the October international break. Summer signing Kota Takai is yet to play a single minute owing to an ankle injury, while Radu Dragusin continues his rehab from an ACL injury sustained back in February. To make matters worse, Archie Gray has been ruled out for weeks following a calf injury.
Thus, it is not surprising that the Hotspur Way chiefs are planning to reinforce the defensive department when the transfer window reopens in January.

Tottenham tipped to sign Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite
Reputable journalist David Ornstein has tipped Tottenham to sign Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. He believes the Englishman would be a “dream” addition for Thomas Frank’s side.
In an interview with Planet Football, David Ornstein was asked to name his dream signings for the Premier League ‘Big Six’ sides. When it came to Spurs, the journalist said:
“Jarrad Branthwaite, because I think Tottenham have been looking for a while to upgrade in that defensive department.
“They’ve looked at him. He’s someone who has been linked with a move away from Everton, even though he’s signed a new contract and I guess he’s one to watch in the future for many of the top clubs.”

Tottenham dodged Jarrad Branthwaite bullet in the summer
In search for a new centre-back in the summer, Spurs had set their sights on Branthwaite. He was instrumental in turning the Toffees’ fortunes around following David Moyes’ return to the dugout after 12 years last season, and his displays had caught the attention of several clubs, including Tottenham. However, the 23-year-old decided to stay at Everton and extended his stay by signing a new contract until 2030.
While Branthwaite is undoubtedly a top defensive prospect, he has unfortunately been injured all summer and is yet to feature this season. Due to a hamstring injury, the England international’s development has stalled. He has suffered several setbacks on his road to recovery, as the team have been left without one of their key players in the early stages of the season.
The Merseyside recently gave green signal for Branthwaite to undergo hamstring surgery in the hope of finding a permanent solution. Moyes will be desperate to see his star defender get back to full fitness as quickly as possible, but Tottenham missing out on Branthwaite’s services in the summer now looks to be a blessing in disguise.
