Tottenham Hotspur will struggle to land Kevin Schade and Igor Thiago in January
Tottenham suffered a 0-1 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. It was a lacklustre display from the Lilywhites, who struggled to create opportunities and managed just a single attempt on goal. Spurs were fortunate not to concede more, as Chelsea squandered several clear chances throughout the match. Tottenham’s goalkeeper, Guglielmo Vicario, was clearly their best player on the night.
This was Spurs’ 10th home defeat in the last 12 games against Chelsea. The loss saw Spurs drop down to fourth place in the league, behind Liverpool, who beat Aston Villa 2-0 to go third. After the full-time whistle, the team was booed off the field by frustrated fans who were upset with the performance.
With injuries mounting, Spurs are reportedly looking to reinforce their squad in January. During the summer transfer window, Tottenham offloaded their best player, Son Heung-min, to the MLS, leaving a major void in their lineup. The Lilywhites recruited Randal Kolo Munai on deadline day on a season-long loan from PSG, after Dominic Solanke picked up an injury. However, the Frenchman has struggled to make any significant impact so far.
As per sources, Sporting Director Fabio Paratici is plotting to sign a striker and a left winger in January to replace Son. Thomas Frank signed Schade from Freiburg in 2023 for a fee of £22 million, bringing him to Brentford, and is reportedly eager to reunite with him at Tottenham. This season, Schade has scored two goals and registered one assist for the Bees. He is currently oozing confidence and remains closely on the radar of Tottenham and Aston Villa. Spurs are also closely monitoring West Ham’s Jared Bowen and Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo.

However, Brentford wants to keep the 23-year-old at the club as they see him as a vital player under Keith Andrew’s system. The Bees were raided for Bryan Mbuemo and Wissa last summer. Offloading other players like Schade and Igor Thiago would put them in a very challenging spot.
According to one Graeme Bailey, Brentford sources have informed him about the availability of Schade (h/t TBR Football).
“Schade is really looking the part now, and Brentford are aware of potential suitors taking an interest.
However, I am told from Brentford sources that they will not entertain his exit come January, indeed the same goes for others in the squad too, including Igor Thiago and Nathan Collins.”
Will Spurs’ returning stars feel like new signings?
Attacking players like Dominic Solanke, Dejan Kulusevski, and James Maddison will soon make their return to the team after recovering from injuries, likely fixing the majority of Spurs’ problems. Solanke is currently recovering from an ankle surgery, Maddison is out until the end of the calender year, and there is no fixed timeline regarding Kulusevski’s return.
