Ally McCoist feels Thomas Frank’s Tottenham are a team currently better suited to playing away from home
Tottenham Hotspur lost 1-0 to Chelsea on home soil on Saturday, as Thomas Frank continues to come under fire. Spurs failed to penetrate the Blues’ defence, barely testing their defence and goalkeeper Robert Sanchez and recording an xG of just 0.10 in the process.
There has been a lot of discontent recently at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The fans are getting extremely frustrated with the insipid displays and poor results. The north Londoners have lost three times at home in the league thus far, while drawing and winning once apiece. Back-to-back defeats to Aston Villa and Chelsea has only cranked up the pressure on Thomas Frank ahead of the visit of FC Copenhagen.
In contrast, Tottenham have been excellent away from home. Thomas Frank and Co. are the best team on their travels this season, unbeaten across five league fixtures, having picked up 13 points from a possible 15.

Ally McCoist thinks Tottenham are better suited to playing away from home
Frank is now under intense pressure from fans after his side suffered their third home league defeat of the season on Saturday. The lack of attacking intent has made it difficult for the team to put pressure on their opponents. The lacklustre performance against Enzo Maresca’s side made it clear that the Danish tactician prioritises defensive solidity over attacking flair, even at home.
Ally McCoist has now had his say on Tottenham’s poor form at home. He commented Spurs were excellent in their opening two away games against PSG and Manchester City, even though they ended up losing to the former on a penalty shootout. Going by the recent performances and results, the Scottish pundit thinks the Lilywhites are better suited to playing away from home currently.
“It’s funny because I watch the opening two games of the season and I thought Spurs were terrific. Both of them away from home. Um the game against PSG in particular, the game against Manchester City and you think to yourself, well, two great performances. Can they maintain it for them, you know, for the duration of the season?” Ally McCoist said on talkSPORT.
“I’m not so sure. But I just think, and you tell me I’m wrong, I just think Spurs are team at this moment in time that look more suited to playing away from home than at home.”
Tottenham have chance to put things right vs FC Copenhagen
Spurs do not have much time to dwell on the Chelsea defeat, as FC Copenhagen pays a visit to north London for a Champions League fixture on Tuesday evening. Guglielmo Vicario has vowed to put things right against FC Copenhagen at home and make the fans happy.
Frank and fans must be eager to see a response from the boys when the Danish side come to town. FC Copenhagen are no easy pushovers and will provide Frank’s side with a stiff challenge. A fast and ferocious start is expected from our boys as they aim to improve the N17 form. A win over Copenhagen would provide them with massive boost in confidence ahead of facing Manchester United at the weekend.
