“Get the Rhythm”- Thomas Frank defends injury prone Tottenham star; slow and steady wins the race

Thomas Frank is convinced that Randal Kolo Muani will come good for Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank has backed new recruit Randal Kolo Muani to perform after seeing promising signs from the Frenchman in Tottenham’s 3-0 thrashing of Everton last weekend.

Spurs signed Kolo Muani on a season-long loan from Paris Saint-Germain on transfer deadline day this summer after Dominic Solanke picked up an injury. The forward initially signed for PSG for around €76.4 million (excluding add-ons) from German side Eintracht Frankfurt and was a vital player for the League 1 giants.

Kolo Muani had a breakthrough season for Frankfurt in 2022-23, scoring 26 goals in 50 appearances, drawing attention from top clubs from Europe and ultimately earning him the big money move to France. He has since proven himself as a prolific goalscorer and was also a part of France’s 2022 World Cup runner-up squad. For Spurs, he has featured in five matches so far, but has yet to get on the scoresheet. After a positive display against Everton, Kolo Muani was subbed off in the second half to make way for Richarlison.

The Spurs boss appeared in a press conference ahead of the fixture against Chelsea, during which he weighed in on the buzz surrounding the French striker. The Danish manager stated that he is still assessing Muani’s fitness levels and wants him to naturally get into rhythm instead of rushing him into the starting lineup. Speaking to the media (h/t BeanymanSports on YouTube), Frank said:

“I think there’s been glimpses in all the four games he’s played or something like that um the last four games. Um I think we will see him hopefully get it better and better and better uh because he will have more physical um um how do you say training and games minutes in the bank.”

“So he’ll be able to play with the intensity and the sharpness he needs. So that would take a little bit of time, but you know, some go quick, but uh I think it’s natural that to get the rhythm, you maybe need three games in a row or something like that.”

Crucial player for Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham has had a promising start to the new Premier League campaign. The North London giants currently stand third in the league, only behind Arsenal and Bournemouth, and have racked up 17 points from the opening nine games. However, they were recently eliminated from the EFL Cup by Newcastle as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at Saint James’ Park.

Thomas Frank is convinced that Randal Kolo Muani will come good for Tottenham Hotspur.

Kolo Muani will likely become a key player for Spurs in the upcoming months, as they look to compete for the EPL, the Champions League, and the FA Cup. He will be competing with Richarlison and Solanke to lead the front line. With an impressive résumé at both club and country level, Kolo Muani has established himself as one of the top strikers in world football. It now remains to be seen how the Frenchman fares in English football under a manager like Frank, who clearly believes in him.
